Yeah, CS:S is meant for more of the agile sniper. Someone who shoots on the go. Sniping isn't bad. It's just different. You have to be able to stop and shoot quickly.

My weapon of choice is generally a Barrett .50 Cal with an ACOG scope on it, and my backup weapon is either an M4A1 or a Shotgun.

ACOG on the 50 cal is LETHAL. It's great for CoD4, because most of their maps are mid range, so you never need a precision scope.

About the details disappearing at a distance, I know, I hate that too. I've learned to adapt to it pretty well. But one thing I LOVE about COD is the use of Ghillie Suits. I love Ghillies. I'va attempted at making my own for Paintball use, but they never turn out as cool as real Ghillie's

ROFL. I think a lot of people misinterpret the use of a sniper. Snipers are eyes that can see far, and that can take out a threat from a distance. There is no use sending a sniper in a close combat scenario.

My whole point of this thread, was that I need a game that has real sniping: Being isolated, watching... waiting, and then getting the payoff. I realize this sounds like a boring game, but I atleast want something like it. If there was a game that was JUST like COD4's sniper mission, then I would love that game.

I love those two missions. My favorite weapon in that whole series, is the silenced, ghillied up M21 you use in that map.

Is it bad that THAT is part of my pleasure of being a sniper? I love forcing people to use different tactics and stuff because they can't find me. I used to just hangout down by the Arabic Army base on Gulf of Oman (Battlefield 2) and just pick off people who got in the helicopter. It was so funny to watch people running in circles and jumping and zigzagging to avoid getting shot. Or, the satisfaction of having a great sniping spot, and then 3 or 4 guys from a clan come by or something, being all stealthy and professional.. and then you waste all of them, while none of them knows where you are.

It's a sadastic pleasure, but it is great fun. It's much more fun than Juggernauting into a battle and unrealistically surviving 80 bullets so you can shoot everybody up.

Mmm.. yes, thus it eliminates the point of sniping. You're more of a marksman who is using a sniper rifle. I hate sniper rifles in CSS. It's not sniping.. It's using a more powerful weapon with a scope on it (which doesn't sway at all.. which is even more lame) There's nothing to it.

mmm, sweet sniping, nothing better than head shotting with my M40A3 (with the R700 the only REAL sniper rifles in CoD4). Nothing like getting two stupid guys on the other team to constantly run up into the second story on Wetworks and try and snipe me (I had 15 straight headshots because two idiots kept trying to snipe me from the same spot, hilarious, pretty much all you can shoot while they are crouched is their head).

But my favorite sniping game by far is Ghost Recon, the original not any of this Advanced Warfighter BS, the first one was top notch when it came to sniping.

BF2 would be awesome for sniping if only the guns were more accurate? I'm always skeptical of the hit detection in that game.

My favorite sniping game was CoD2.... I don't remember the names of the levels, but the snow level with the big hills and the bunker on one side... That was awesome. I liked the map with the rocket, and the big open green level with the trenches. Man that game was awesome. Maybe I'm just not good enough at CoD4 yet to appreciate it.

Well, I just wanna say, if you want to shoot guns... DON'T join the military for it. Do it for other reasons, LOL. I was a medic in the army and I always shot 35 plus out of 40 targets when I qualified. I also got to treat guys from our brigade "sniper team", in Iraq... interesting bunch of people to say the least.

Now before I start I just want to say that I as well L-O-V-E being the sniper. No ifs ands or buts there. It's just way more fun for me taking out targets at a distance. BF2 was my favorite multiplayer game for sniping and GRAW 2 was my favorite single. With that said both games lack true "sniper" realism. Most single players it's more along the lines of squad marksman rather than being a real sniper.

Truth is I don't know if a developer would WANT to make a sniper game. I mean the more realistic you get, the more BORING it would be. Any REAL sniper will tell you that they rarely shoot for real. In fact they don't want to. It's bad. Usually they do LRSD (Long Range Surveillance Detatchment) and scout kind of stuff. Reconaissance. They are nuts at it. They have a scope, are WELL trained at identifying targets and equipment, excellent at infiltration, and are amazing at hiding and staying in one spot for a long time. Last thing you want to do when you and your spotter are out there all alone in a bad place is shoot a gun and drop your pants to say "here I am, shoot me". So, they usually shoot only in support situations when they back up other guys and therefore are NOT without support. Shooting targets of high profile also takes a long time, patience, and is very well calculated.

That being said, I don't think a true "sniper simulator" will come out for a looong time, if ever. I doubt many would buy it other than those like me. But we can hope for games with good sniping characteristics and good bullet/weapon/weather physics and enemy behavior.

That being said I'd like to thank everyone for the suggestions in this thread and plan to look into some of these single player games.
