Make it as easy as possible for me to load everything up and start and I will make a go of it.

I have the following hardware;
Dual xeon mobo (Tyan S2692)
nVidia FX 3400 (I am pretty sure this is the 6600 equivalent) Plus I have some other less powerful fireGL's and quadro's.
Plenty of drives...
2gb of memory
Any OS (win server 2003 x64 R2 currently installed)

Again, make this as fast and easy as possible and I will test it out.

this is a good idea but im not sure if the GFX would work, since the chip has to be atleast a G80. 6600 equivalent won't meet that requirement.

now that i think about it, are there any workstation gfx's with a g80 chip?

Well, that is a problem then.

The FX 4600 and 5600 are based on the G80 chip. I will check some of the systems back in my RMA area to see if they have either one.

What is the minimum for an ATI card?

I think desktop GFX draws polygons while workstation GFX draws lines.
