Anyone have experience with Q9550?

Thread Starter
Well in the next month I want to jump onto the 45nm quad wagon. I am looking at the QX9650 but I want to know if 3.8+ is possible on the Q9550 which is also £300 cheaper.

Don't bang onto me about price > performance either because I don't care. I just want to know if a Q9550 will exceed 3.8Ghz and therefore need to know from people who have the chip!

The Q9450 is a no no because I don't want to have to use 1800FSB for 3.6Ghz...

The extra .5 does make a big difference if you think about it. So people, who knows what?

it looks like people have been able to get 3.6 with 1.3 - 1.37 vcore. so if your lucky you can hit 3.8+. and have the cooling to

Will my TRUE lapped be enough for a 45nm quad?

I know they run cooler but how much?

The 45nm quads put off a lot a heat once you start ramping up the voltage and clock speeds (amps). A lapped TRUE should do.

Well I have put up with a B3 Q6600 and a G0 Q6700...

Surely this 45nm thing is less hot?

Yes, my Q9300 runs alot cooler than my Q6700, by like 8-10c.

Good. I just hope i could top 3.6 with this chip. Its 8.5x multi should help as opposed to the 8x of the Q9450.

Its also half the price of the QX9650.

Erm yes I would of course buy a component like that off ebay!

Which is NOT covered as an authorised dealer by intel's RMA service.

Now hasn't anyone on here got a Q9550?

Or am I going to have to save up and get the £650 chip.

You might have money burning a hole in your pocket, but spending 1000+ dollars on a CPU that performs barely better than your q6700 at 3.6ghz is very a waste IMO. Even a q9550 at 3.8ish is a waste over what you have now.
