Best Video Card for an Older Motherboard - Page 2

I don't think anyone has asked but what are you planning on playing with this system, crysis, cod4, ect. You should be able to find a pd 940 3.2ghz for around 100 bucks, I think I got mine for around 90$ new from somewhere. ebay would have a ton im sure.

Agreed with duckie and Anqt31. It should be relatively cheap and around $150 for both well depending on how much you can get a Pentium D.

Typically play STALKER, The Witcher, Oblivion, BF2142, ET:QW, etc....

Would it be worth getting:
EVGA 512-P3-N841-AR GeForce 8800GTS (G92) 512MB

for $190

if you're only playing those games, get a 8600GTS and save your money.

It's never worth getting a 8800gts 512 for 190. It's not competitive with current 4850 prices at all. Find an 8800gt (512 or 256), 3870 or 3850 for 100 or less. The 256mb 8800gt can be had for pretty cheap after rebates. You won't need much more than that at the 1280x1024 resolution that your monitor has...or at least you'll be so CPU-bound that you won't feel the difference between those and higher cards.

edit: Just read some of the other replies. Spending $100 on a new proc is ill-advised with a dead-end platform. The 8800gs is also a fine choice, but you may be able to get the others for less if you shop around.
