Download Ubuntu

You'll need to partition your drive, which you can do with the Ubuntu disk. Then you can install linux on the new drive, and your computer will be dual booted. Check out the linux area of the forum for more specific help.

wow you guys are making a way bigger deal then this. Also bestbuy has been selling it for about 3 weeks now. Well my store has atlest. Second off, if a person truly was interested in Linux, they wouldn't buy it, they would download unless it's a special case. Lets not forget that linux has a consumer market share of what now? So bestbuy is only going to get pocket change from it since no one is really gonna ask for it.

Also it cost bestbuy roughly 12 dollars to sell linux. There is an 8 dollar mark up on the price. The easiest way to find out if bestbuy is truly ripping you off is to find out the employee price.

Employee price is the cost of the item for bestbuy+5%. So if there was a dvd player bestbuy sold for 200, and the it cost bestbuy 100 to buy the player, it would be 105 for employee.

So find out employee cost and subtract 5% of that price and you'll know the actual cost of the product

Yea see i tried installing it through windows on a second partition and it worked. But once I restarted my computer, I could no longer boot into there unless I reinstalled it every time. Whats up with that? Not gotta have like 4 hours to dedicate to finding drivers if your drivers aren't supported, or you gotta make your own.

No, the license specifically states that you're allowed to sell it. They're basically selling the service of downloading it and putting it on a disk for you. Although you can order free disks from Ubuntu, they take a while to arrive, and it sounds like these may be the DVD versions that contain all of the programs and not just the basics.

Selling a GPL Linux distro is not a big deal at all. There are several online sites that were already doing it way before this. It's explicitly allowed, and probably encouraged, so long as the requirements of the GPL are met (such as putting all of the source code on the disk).

This is awesome. Truly. A major retail outlet getting Ubuntu out on the market? Of course, anyone who looks up that it's free might get pissed, but w/e.

It's not illegal to do this. In fact, if it is packaged and distributed with DVD/MP3/etc. codecs, it is probably legally required to charge a fee in the U.S. Anyway, selling GPL software isn't illegal as long as the source code is made available.

I was hoping they had boxes with Ubuntu installed, but this works too.

Also, they've been selling Red Hat linux for years.
