Network Bridge Question

Thread Starter
Me and my friend want to have a lil mini LAN in my house this weekend...problem is, we wouldnt be near the wired hookup to my FIOS Internet, and we'd both have to use wireless, and he doesn't have a wireless adapter, only I do. Would I be able to use the ethernet cord to connect our computers, then both of us would be able to use the wireless internet? Thanks

yeah, so pretty much I connect the PC's via Ethernet and just bridge the wired and wireless, correct?

You can use an Ethernet Crossover cable.

If your NIC supports mdi/x ( I believe that is the correct name) then you can use a straight though and the NIC's will automatically detect it.

You wouldn't so much as bridge, as just tell the friends PC to use your computer as a gateway and such.

Just be sure to assign static IP's to your wired port and his wired port. By default they'll be setup for DHCP, and since netiher of you are running a DHCP server the PC's won't take viable address. Set your PC's wired port for 10.0.0.1 with subnet 255.255.255.0 and set it's gateway to the address for your wireless port. Then configure his wired port to 10.0.0.2 subnet mask 255.255.255.0 with a gateway address of 10.0.0.1
