e2180 to 3.0ghz

Thread Starter
I want to take my e2180 to 3ghz.. I have already brought it to the following:

2.0 @ 2.67
foxconn mobo with ram @ 533 (stock), and fsb @ 1066, stock x10 mult..
stock fan and heat sink..

I have another HUGE, aftermarket fan and heat sink, that I may put on if necessary..

would I be able to push my fsb a little higher, and bring it to 3.0? Is that the only way to raise that?

would the fsb be, like, 1200?

Try 300 @ 10 multiplier with ram at 1:1 but that that would take your memory to 600. You might need to up the volts on your ram. But I got my e2180 up to 3.0 at stock volts if my memory serves me right.

I have my memory unlinked.. and my fsb is in x4.. so yeah.. 1200/300=4.. so a 1200 fsb.. sweet...

Im not overclocking my memory as of yet, just because its just some cheap RAM.. I need to get some good stuff..

looking at your system, you got your e2180 to 3.2 with a fsb of 1600.. is that stock voltage?

You're memory will be the biggest problem. Try to unlink the memory/cpu (if your motherboard supports it) or if you can't, be prepared to pump some serious voltage into your mem. Happy hunting for that 3.0 mark!

my memory is unlinked.. I just said that...

and from what I have seen, you dont need a voltage increase to take this cpu to 3.0, with the memory unlinked..

so yeah.. lol

No my e2180 @3200 needs 1.44v idle and with vdroop it goes to 1.424v. @3000mhz I was at 1.370 and with vdroop it went to 1.344 stable. This is just off the top of my head but if i remember right when I lowered my vcore 1 more step to 1.36 and vdroop of 1.334 i think i was unstable. I've tried to increase my FSB but I can't seem to go higher than 1600 FSB just doesn't boot.

hello, please fill out your spec here, so maybe we can estimate what u will achieve lol

i know, each chip may vary and hardly seen an e2180 can do 3.0 less than 1.25v (correct me if im wrong).

u could try 9 multi with 333 fsb with say, 1.3 - 1.35v, with ur memory set to 1:1, i dont think u should add more vDimm.

thx

My e2180 also takes 1.45v in BIOS to run stable at 3.0GHz (~1.40v after vdroop--the vdroop is BAD on my board). So you might need a voltage bump from stock to get it to 3GHz. If your bios has an "auto voltage" option, and you think it'll run stable 300MHz FSB, just bump it up to 300MHz, make sure your RAM is on the appropriate divider, and see if she boots. If not, then go and tweak the voltages. I'm not sure what options you have though.

Regarding the cooling--Mine ran @ 3GHz on the stock cooler, and orthos load got it to 62C max--that was the absolute hottest it got, with the hottest ambient temps. Normally, it ran around 55C to 58C. In gaming, it was high 40's, sometimes 50C. So cooling may or may not be an issue. I upgraded to the Zalman 9700 just 'cause it was on sale at Frys for twenty bucks (from seventy) on one of their sales. Otherwise, I'd probably still be on the stock cooler--it worked well with these little guys.

Good luck!

EDIT--don't forget to lock your PCI-E speed at or around 100MHz. I forgot to do that the first time, and it wouldn't boot (makes sense--I think it would have been around 125MHz, which is no good...).

yeah.. im not new to overclocking, per se'.. lol.. I had that locked from the get-go... haha

and you also just answered my other question about operating temps.. I just ordered my second Artic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro 92mm CPU Cooler.. it did wonders with my 3.2 ht, which ran hotter than hell itself.. haha

sooo.. Im going to take it up to 1200 fsb at 10x.. If I want to try 1600, should I put my fsb at 1600, then up the voltage 1 notch? again, with RAM and PCI-E locked...
