ok.. i notched up the voltage .025, and brought it to 3.0 ghz, by way of a 1200mhz fsb

idle temp ~29c-31c
98% load ~ 53c-55c

Is this good?

And My games still look a little jerky.. will overclocking the ACTUAL memory itself fix this? I have 2 1gb G. Skill sticks with heat spreaders, and 2 fans for them

5-5-5-15
2.0~2.1v - Dont know what that means
ddr2 1066

Is it possible to overclock the ram even just a little bit to get some more fps?

ok.. so I did a prime95 torture test for the last 2 hours.. the temp didnt run over 58, and that was just in little spikes.. I also looked spent some time looking at some other forums, and the temps should be fine..

yeah for meeeeeee.....

If your memory is unlinked right now, you can increase it to the next strap, run memory testing software, and Prime95 Blend, along with games for stability.

I'm pretty sure your board does not support 1066mhz ram so don't expect to get that, even if your memory is rated up to 1066mhz. Just increase the memory slowly , test, increase, test, until failure.

That jerky gaming, is probably slow frame rates. An 8600GT is not the fastest gaming card out there. I'm not sure if Assassin's Creed has built in FPS monitor, but if you can find a copy of EVGA Precision it has a built in game fps and status monitor. It should indicate what FPS you are getting.

Yeeah.. it actually runs pretty clean, now that I pushed the clocks on the card +200mhz.. I know that this card isnt the best.. lol.. but its actually holding up right now.. It boogies.. lol

what do you mean "the next strap"? haha

the ram is ddr2, rated at 533... ddr=x2.. 533x2=1066... thats what the "board standard" is, or whatever they call it.. lol.. too many different names..

so, the ram is at 533 now.. how much should I go in increments to test the ram? 20, 30 50?

Im really impressed with the way that these stock fans and heat sinks perform for the dual cores... seriously, coming from someone who has been pushing single cores to the max, these run really cool.. I have had my old 3.2 ht at 4.5, but running WAY too hot at idle to even dare to play games.. AND that was with a huge fan and heatsink... aftermarket, of course.. Lapped.. and still at idle, sat at ~55c.. not kosher... not for the cpu @ idle, anyway.. just seeing this at 3.0 without it even touching 60c, is just great...

With it set like this, call of duty 4 ****S on a 360... I dont care.. I did a side by side test.. it kills it... of course, this is overclocked, with everything I got.. murders it, nonetheless...

Plus the CPU @3.0, and 2gb ddr2 @ 533 (or 1066.. haha)

This card has for SURE proven itself.. Especially for the price..

My E2180 easily hit 3GHz, I didn't even boot up at stock when I installed it, first thing I did was just set the FSB to 300 and multi was already 10x, I left everything auto and it booted fine, idled at 22 degrees. I only have a problem getting it past 3.2 even though at 3.2 its running 47 degrees on load so I don't think going farther is making it too hot. Also, Ive managed to get the FSB to 1780Mhz, anyone else have results like this? I was completely shocked that a $70 CPU did this.

I am having problems getting it to 3.0.GHz. I can get it easily to 2.9GHz with everything at stock, but beyond that, even with voltage increases it simply does not like it.

CPU: E2180
MB: DFI INFINITY P965-S
RAM: GSKILL 2x 1GB DR2 800
PSU: Antec earthwatts EA380 380W
CPU Cooler: ASUS V-60 92mm Vapo

I know the DFI can go into the 500 FSB range, I just want into the 300's with this chip.

The reason games and applications are a little jerky is most likely down to the fact that your RAM isn't running fast enough. Whatever speed you run your memory at it's always best to have it running at least as fast as your CPU's bus speed. If your RAM is currently set to the stock 533Mhz then this means that it's actually running a 266Mhz, which is lower than your CPU's overclocked bus speed of 300Mhz.

You need to increase your RAM speed from 533Mhz (266 x 2) to 600Mhz (300 x 2). The only way you can do this is by raiseing the RAM voltage, slackening the timeings, or a combination of both. Even then you may find that your RAM simply isn't capable of 600Mhz.

no.. again.. its DDR2 533.. 533x2=1066.. NOT 266

I will try to OC my RAM a little later this week.. I just want to play with it for a while.. lol
