22" to xbox 360 question

Thread Starter
I'm going to be investing in a 22" LCD Monitor(lookin at this one: Acer AL2216Wbd). I want to connect it to my xbox 360 using its HDMI port, but the ACER doesn't have an HDMI port, all it has is the DVI-D and VGA ports.

Got a couple questions actually. Would it be better to get this monitor and just use an HDMI to DVI converter to connect to my xbox 360, or should I just buy a 22" monitor that supports HDMI?

Also, can anybody recommend a 22" monitor?

This is the system I'm building: http://www.overclock.net/intel-gener...you-think.html

I intend for it to be a gaming computer, and would like a monitor that can handle the 360 and the best PC games.

All help is much appreciated.

I currently have connected my xbox 360 to my 19" Acer through the VGA port and my pc through the DVI which works well by just going through the menu and switching between analog and digital. I'm not sure if the model you are looking at has 2 DVI ports or just one but if one and you plan to plug the computer and the 360 in through DVI you may need a switch so you dont have to unplug the 360 to plug in the computer. I'm satisfied with how mine works but its really up to you if you want to spend a little more and get one with a separate HDMI.

I run my PS3 hdmi to DVI-d on my Viewsonic 22". Really good monitor and it's hdcp compliant. I would suggest it. Video quality will be the same whether you go hdmi or dvi.

"Video quality will be the same whether you go hdmi or dvi."

Thats what was keeping me from dropping an extra 100 USD for a single HDMI port on a 22" monitor. Thanks for clarifying.

@ hashmere: I wouldn't be too against unplugging the xbox to plug the computer back in, but I see where that could get annoying. Didn't even think about looking for a monitor with 2 DVI ports. Thanks.

Most 22" will be fine for 360 gaming, but you should look specifically at ones that have 1:1 pixel mapping and/or aspect scaling. With 1:1 you'll get a 720p picture in the middle of your screen (black borders all around) and with aspect scaling, the image will stretch to fit the monitor but will preserve the aspect ratio (black borders at top and bottom). I haven't read of any overscan issues with that monitor at 720p, so you should be fine.

Also look at the LG L227WTG if you want a 22" as it has the lowest image delay (0) of all current 22" monitors and relatively good colors.

My 360 looks awsome using VGA far better then component and super sharp. Then you can hook up you PC with DVI at the same time! VGA also supports 1080p for DVDs and HD DVDs
