Around $800 budget for those parts...mmmmm

I am probably a bit over budget here:
  • VisionTek 900244 Radeon HD 4870 512MB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Retail $299.99
  • G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1000 (PC2 8000) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F2-8000CL5D-4GBPQ - Retail $84.99
  • DFI LANPARTY DK X38-T2R LGA 775 Intel X38 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail $184.99
  • Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz LGA 775 Quad-Core Processor Model BX80562Q6600 - Retail $209.99
  • Tuniq Tower 120 P4 & K8 CPU Cooler - Retail $49.99
Total: $829.95
  • 4GB RAM v. 2GB RAM (and it's not Corsair... G.Skill is better).
  • Better motherboard, and one that can do Crossfire in x16, x16 mode if you so desire.
  • Better cooler. The Zalman isn't quite capable of handling Quad, esp. when overclocked.

I agree with Chozart, except on the CPU cooler. I don't like either that Zalman or the Tuniq Tower. Go with a OCZ Vendetta 2 cooler. I'm sure there cheaper, and are currently one of the best out there.

What's so bad about Zalman? I have the 9700 on an E6400, my idles are low 30's, and when I load (OC'ed to 3.2GHz, a 1GHz increase over stock) I never break 50C. If you spout your TRUE stuff, do you guys use the fan that comes with it, or what?

lol, sorry for the off-topic. I agree with Chozart's build, DFI + G.Skill = awesome build.

The CNPS9700 isn't a bad cooler, and does well with a Dual core like the E6400 (or my E6600) that isn't that heavily overclocked, like your CPU. However, it depends heavily on an excellent airflow in the case, and with mediocre airflow it doesn't perform as well. Also, with CPUs that have a higher heat output (Quads, or heavily overclocked dualies), performance quickly deteriorates.

I have one myself (and two Tuniq Towers). The Tuniq is imo one of the best coolers on the market. I use the fan that comes with it in one of them and a Silverstone 110CFM fan in the other. Note that the TRUE is a different cooler (ThermalRight Ultra Extreme), and that one doesn't come with a fan.

Your a little over budget there. Plus i would need a new power supply with that one. Or is there a way of buying a 8pin atx connector and attaching it seperately to your powersupply.

I like the RAM, but again its a little bit expensive. Plus i am using Windows XP atm so i dont really need 4gb.

The Cooler - yes i want a Tuniq Tower but sadly i only have a mid tower case and it will not correctly into my case . So i looked at the charts and one that would fit and was easily avaliable to me was the Zalman.

With that gfx card - its practically the same spec as the one i chose just a different brand? is that not right?

Ok i just did a few more measurements and i reckon i can just fit the tuniq tower 120 into my case - and if not i will just have to send it back. Too bad it doesn't look as cool as the Silent Knight II or the Zalman CNPS9700 lol.

yeh under load they ill rise into the 80*C, which is normal for a ATi card. But yeh a aftermarket cooler would be good, HR-03 GT fits i think
