1K Build, Advice Needed - Page 2

From your own source:

Superpi 2MB: DDR2 800 - 41.953 seconds ; DDR2 1112 - 40.109 seconds
Farcry: 3 FPS improvement between DDR2 800 and DDR2 1112 (2.7%)
Lost Coast: 3.6 FPS improvement (2.5%)
etc.

Thus, I conclude there is a 2.5% improvement between DDR2 800 and DDR 2 1112. That IS significant imo.

The fact that I choose the Q6700 over the Q6600 is simply based on user experience, which is the best source of information in my book. I don't often go by review (some exceptions, most notably PSUs), since it's always in a specific situation, and rarely gives general information. Plus, the fact that I am a Forum Director doesn't matter one bit

'Light gaming', so I assume he already has a GPU.

The fact that Delta as a brand 'isn't that bad' doesn't mean this specific PSU isn't that bad either. FSP, for example, is a good brand in general, but has produced some duds (the Epsilon platform, on which the OCZ GameXStream is based, isn't very good for high performing PSUs. The 700W version of that one is a good 500W PSU, but shouldn't be used as a 700W unit). And I do stand with my opinion that the 430W Earthwatts is insufficient for an overclocked Quad with an E4850.

2.5% is significant??! 2.5% worth an extra $30???!! We are not seeking world records. We are simply trying to figure the best bang-per-buck for the OP.

How many MHz can the $275 Q6700 reach over the $175 Q6600? And at the $275 price-point, why not just buy a Q9450 for a little extra, or wait for the price drops of the Q9550 that are occuring next week?

You are definitely right. A link to a thread supporting your claim (regarding Q6600 vs Q6700), with MANY samples would be nice.

Right on point. I've been out of the loop for a while (exams), so I was not aware that the Earthwatts switched from Seasonic to Delta till when you told me. That's why I suggested the BFG 650W as an alternative.
