GTX 260 broken out of box. Real pro nvidia

Thread Starter
My brother just got a BFG OC GTX 260 for his rig a week ago.

I had been round to spend the day building it with him, we put all the mobo, cpu, HD etc etc and pressed the on button...
No screen input was all that the screen displayed.
Hmmm, ok so turned it off and opened it up turned it back on and the gpu fan didnt spin, still no screen.

We swapped cards: my 8800gts 640 in his rig, and his gtx 260 in mine, to see if we had done something wrong in the building of his rig, he got his bios up and everything but i got nothing on my rig.

So why would a brand new released card be broken out of the box?

Pack up the card and RMA right away. Who cares what the actual problem is, you bought an item that is defective. Get a replacement or get your money back!

EDIT: before you pack it up, make sure sure you didn't overlook any little details, like plugging in all required PCI-E power plugs

It is just a defective card. It is an electronic device, it has that chance of being bad.

There's no use in blaming NVidia for the problem. The card might have been damaged while shipping, packing, etc etc. It might even be the card manufacturer's fault. A defect is a defect though, it could happen to any brand.

Take it back and replace it with a new one.

Yeah just like everybody else said, it's defective. RMA as soon as possible or it will take a little longer RMAing through the manufacturer.

It's DOA (dead on arrival). Stuff like this happens all the time for any PC parts. Contact BFG and send the broken one in to get it replaced. This isn't Nvidia's fault as they just supplied the chipset. They themselves didn't make the card.

One faulty card and ppl just blame the chipset, this I don't understand. It could be the retailer's fault, shipping carrier's, or the manufactures.

It is called ignorance and that is how alot of companies/name brands get such a bad rap. People go off like, "Oh my gosh, my new nvidia/ati or intel/amd part is bad. That brand sucks... long live the other brand!".

Not trying to dis you or anything, just checking...

Big enough power supply?

It takes a 6 pin and an 8 pin connector to power it right, both plugged in?

I've made some simple mistakes in my days so just asking if it could be one of these problems.

If it's bad, that would be awful. Hope you get one working soon!
