I've got one that should be on it's way to me soon and I'm hoping to be able to bring it to an upcomming head-fi meet so stay tuned for impressions.

bottom line, you can buy the amp after the headphones so don't rush into any decisions.

I would highly recommend the HD595's over the HD555's
. I found them to be more resolved and detailed, slightly more satisfying. Both will benefit from a good amp. For games I feel the ATH A700's are a bit better, but they just aren't nearly as good as an all-around headphone if you plan to listen to music and movies, especially since you enjoy acoustic music (folk, jazz, classical, acoustic rock & pop)
So, thought I'd bump this semi-old thread. You suggest the 595's over the 555's. Are they really worth the $80 difference? I assume they are, or they wouldn't exist, but what am I going to hear differently?

well sound is subjective. If you spend much time on head-fi you'll find some people prefer the HD555 to the HD595. Likewise I prefer the HD580/600 to the HD650. I personally feel the HD595's are a better buy as you can get them used for about $125 in mint condition.

ultimately it's up to you. It all depends on how much you're willing to spend to achieve that ultimate sound that will transport you to a special place at the end of the day. me, it's worth enough that I've spent thousands int he pursuit...

haven't spent too much time with woo amps, some of them look good, but it seems there's always something better for about the same price.
