Fan direction in Cooler Master 590

Thread Starter
I am new to overclocking and so I am not sure what the best method for fan direction (intake or exaust) should be in my case. http://www.coolermaster.com/products...detail&id=3927

It came with 2 fans but I have 4 other 120mm fans to install. (5 if you include the xigmatek hdt-s1283 for the cpu.)

Should both on the top be intake, duct, or one of each? I also have 2 on the side of the case. So what about them?

Top and back are usually for exhaust, front and sides usually for intake.

I have the same case, did my build a couple weeks ago. I bought 2 extra of the cheap 120mm CM brand fans (blue led, same as the front/hdd bay fan). The way i have it setup is 2 in front, one is zip tied to the drive bay screw holes, the other on the 4 HDD enclosure thing. Then i have the included fan on the back, and my 4th fan in the rearmost top position (right above my cpu)

I have some basic pictures on my profile, i can add one of the suspended zip tie fan up front this evening when i get home.

The bottom-side mount is a good spot for getting fresh air for the gpu, the top-side should be used at the discretion of your cpu cooler, imo. When my typhoon arrives tomorrow, that will be very close to the opening, no use to put another fan in between.

My system has 3 open vents right now (2 side, 1 top) and it's getting quite dusty, i'm probably going to use the pantyhose trick to make some filters soon.

Wow, this ended up being long. well, good luck!

I also have the same case. I added 4x 140mm fans. Intake on the side, exhaust on the top and back. Since hot air rises, go with the natural flow of the air and put the exhaust up top.

The only thing that bugged me was the side panel is not really sturdy and the fans made it give off a buzzing sound. I fixed it by putting some foam blocks between the fans and the panel. Now it is nice and quiet

I also put some of that blue meshy air filter material to filter the incoming air. It works great.

Good luck!

hah. i'm dumb. made a long post about positions yet failed to mention direction...
My fronts are intake and my top and back are exhaust. sides would be intake, if i had more fans.
