Vista and 2 gigs of RAM?

Thread Starter
I was considering grabbing vista 32 bit, I heard it runs sluggish with 2 gigs, though I hear 3 gigs is what you need because it dedicated like 750 mb of RAM to the GPU?

Opinions and 32 Bit can only see like 3.5 Gbs right?

I have been running 64bit Vista for over a year now with the same 2gigs of RAM, no problems.

I would get 64bit, because when you go to 4gb, you won't have to buy another OS.

I think if you go Vista, you should go straight for 64-bit, even with only 2 gigs of RAM.

I will warn you though, it will run sluggish at first until SuperFetch learns what programs you learn and how often, but after 2 weeks or so it will be much faster.

I don't know what the bit about needing dedicated ram for the video card is.

i am running vista64 ultimate with 2 gigs currently and i haven't had any problems with it. I do plan on upgrading to 4 gigs once i get a little bit more money and the gskill ram goes back on sale.

Thanks guys, it's just I can get 32 bit dirt cheap over here($20). Might dual boot and decided if I like it and if I do then I might buy 64-bit($150)

With vista, 32-bit and 64-bit OSs can use the same product key- so all you have to do is call up MS and get them to send you a 64 bit cd- you can reactivate with your old key. I know, I just did it

Sounds good. Just when you're trying it out, do give it that time for SuperFetch to do its thing. A lot of people will just use it and get frustrated with the sluggish performance initially until SuperFetch adjusts itself.

From my experience, once it's used to how you use the computer, thins are noticeably faster from XP.

Yeah I'll give it 2 weeks or so probably, I might throw in another 2 gigs hell even if 3.5 or something shows up it should be enough for it surely!
