1080p grainy? - Page 2

Thread Starter
Well I have just gotten back from work, and I did some further investigation. Instead of changing the resolution directly I went to the Nvidia control panel and selected the menu option "change the signal or HD format" and there are 3 options 480p 720p 1080i. Is the 8800GT only able to output 1080 interlaced?

You should be able to set it for 1080P. Just set the res like you normally would, however make sure the refresh rate is 60hrz not 30.

my 8800GT can output pure 1080p. It's on a Sony LCD though.

this might be an issue with the TV

Does the picture appear chopped at the edges? If so, you will need to find a setting in your TV to set the video feed to "unscaled"

I have this issue with my parent's Phillips LCD when trying to use my computer as a blu-ray player

Not all TVs support 1080p through DVI. Check your manual.

Do you mean unscaled as in have it set to 16:9?

Most TVs I've seen only have a VGA hookup. My 42" Bravia looks really good with VGA. Try VGA if you have it.

Also, if I plug my computer to my TV, it automatically sees the TV as 1920x1080 and adjusts the output resolution accordingly.

Maybe you could take a picture of the TV with the PC input. That might help us to figure out what's wrong.

Well it really depends on the TV and what the specific setting does

But yes, anything that sets scaling to exactly what the ratio should be (be it 16:9 or 16:10, 1920x1080 is 16:9).... But with my TV there is 4:3, 16:9, and UNSCALED, and Auto... The UNSCALED option gives by far the best picture because for some reason 16:9 still cuts off the edges of the screen...

Mess with the settings... The idea I am trying to get at is there is a setting that allows every pixel of video signal to be displayed... Im almost sure that if you viewed your desktop on that screen, your start bar on any side of the screen will be partially cut off using the settings you had with the 'grainy' effect...

Well I went and used a VGA cable and it runs at a crappy resolution and I have tried all the aspect ratio setting, unscaled is not one of the options I think I am just going to give up cause it looks like that 720p and 1080i is the best this tv can do thanks for all the help guys.
