Suggest a board for Q9450

post #1 of 18
Thread Starter
Hey guys,

I am looking into buying a new motherboard. If price was no option (I won a $1000 drawing from EVGA, those guys rock), what board would you buy? I will more then likely not be going SLI. Just let me know what experiences you have have had with different boards, and tell me which ones have really shined. I am a fairly competent overclocker, so ease of use with the Bios is not a huge deal. Thanks for your help.

If I were you I would get a 780i board
If you have the $$$ why not wait for EVGA's 780i FTW edition?

I love my DFI P35, so maybe pick up their new P45 board if you don't plan on going sli.

there were some issues with the original 780i boards where people's RAM were getting messed up and the new FTW version suppose to have fixed the problem plus have some more features

* 8 Phase Power
* VDroop Control
* More flexible BIOS
* All solid state capacitors
* Onboard Clear CMOS
* Onboard Power/Reset with LED Activity
* Ferrite Core Choke
* Auto OC Function

thanks for that info. Is there any documented evidence that one chipset OC's with the Q9450 "better" then the others? Or is it more of an issue of preference?

its an issue of preference.
i used to have my q9450 on a 790i board, but thats just because i wanted ddr3.
if ddr3 isnt really needed, then definitely go with the 780i FTW, ftw, lol.

Lol, I am sorry guys, I realize now my original questions left no answer but the 780i. What I meant to ask was, out of all the boards out there, what would you get if you were also buying a Q9450 and money was not an issue. It will be used with a single 512 GTS. I apologize for not being specific in the beginning.

I am in a similar situation to trapperkeeper, but i already have a XFX 780i.

Im looking for a good OC'er for 45nm chips and money is no object upto £200 ($400 or what ever they cost over the pond ).

Been looking at X38 and X48 any suggestions?????
