yea its going to be expensive but in 6 months you will still get a decent amount for 2 4870s which should cover close to half the cost of your next upgrade, thats how i always upgrade hardware.

I hope the 4870X2 destroys the GTX3x0 card. ATI has been beaten for quite some time, and it's their turn to be on top for a while.

you can only compare the GTX2XX to the R700, and R800 to GTX3xxx because they should be coming out in Q1 09. Nvidia can not luach the GTX3XXX because TSMC deplayed its 45nm-40nm process to Q1 09

It isn't delayed, TSMC just is not offering a 45nm GP node. This means there won't be any 45nm GPUs, they will go straight to 40nm.

IIRC, the earliest move to 40nm can be made in February 2009.

It's really not that big a deal in the grand scheme of things, but since this article says it will be 45nm, I don't belive it at all because it won't be happening.

couldn't there be 45nm? i mean Ati had 80nm with the X1950XTX i think it was and Nvidia has 90nm =/

and it looks like it is delayed http://www.theinquirer.net/gb/inquir...mc-delays-40nm

Edit: i mean delay for 40nm

It's not that it's not technically possible, it's just that with the delays, TSMC would have the the general purpose 45nm and 40nm nodes ramping up within a quarter of each other. Instead of doing this, they just cancelled the 45GP node altogether.

adding that TSMC will not offer a 45G process but will go directly to the 40G process.

Yea, 40nm was delayed, 45nm was cancelled. I guess I could have been more clear.

lol if thats true, then Nvidia will make a decent return to the top.

but at what price? hopefully they have learnt from their mistake with the GTX 280 and will consider that in the future.

the GTX280 prices per performance were that bad, NV fanboys jumped teams, something a lot of them hated to admit.

personally i'll go with whoever is better..as long as the price is reasonable enough to justify the purchase.

right now..4870 hands down. and maybe, the 4870X2, if it works.
