This means significant arch changes, since there is no way they can cram all the GTX200 series shaders onto a 45nm process. I wager yields will be low if they rush things just like they are for the GTX200 series and hence expensive. Second, if you believe the OP, GDDR5 with a clock of 2000MHz is actually 8GHz, a pretty substantial leap considering how new GDDR5 is. Third, no business lets the other side do anything. If Nvidia had a better card they would release the better card. From a business perspective, you never let up. That ATI has a great combo of cards with the 4850/4870 right now, and you can bet that Nvidia isn't happy about it. There stock has taken a pounding, their sales projection was lowered from $1.2 billion to $850 million, no profit making company would ever let another competitor do that if they could stop it.

While this is an entertaining rumor, some of the "projections" seem a little optimistic.
Not to sound like a fanboi but things like this are just to trick us. For example they what they sad about GT200 in beginning of 2008 and it came much more latter. Also they say this will beat 4870X2 but they are forgetting ATI will not stop there. They are making R800 which i heard has 2000SP

It has to be TSMC but as of right now it doesn't exist, under development right?

This is most likely a rumor. Think about it, a company that was on top for a very long time suddenly gets their ass handed to them on a gilded silicon platter. That's when the mud starts getting slung around...

But, I supposed this could be Moore's Law under perfect conditions.

NVidia doesn't have any fabs, and AMD isn't going to convert theirs to do GPUs. TSMC does not have any 40/45nm process fabs right now, but they are working on them.

On a side note: I told you so Paul!

What the heck was so wrong w/ the g92 chipset any way it does a great job of rendering graphics ... whats so wrong with improving something youve made to work better... car companies do it... hell im doing it right now w/ my computer itself - upping my mobo.

Think we need a "Leave nvidia alone!" video on YouTube.

maybe ill make it.
