[hardspell] GTX3x0 info exposed?! - Page 10

the reason the 4870 has high power consumption at idle is because the 8.6 drivers don't make it run at 2D speed the 8.7 driver will fix it

That $150 to $250 million is to fix defective laptop graphics cards. The reduction in revenue projection could have to do with a lot more than simple margins and yields. They could be making 100% yields and $500 per card but if they don't sell a lot of them then their revenue margins will drop. Their notebook sales are taking a beating because all the laptops companies are going with ATI for the Intel Montevina platform.

You are looking at a value and trying to determine 2 variables from it when there are hundreds of variables that make up that value.

So wait from what i've read...Nvidia aren't going to go DX10.1 and they're not gonna add GDDR5 just clock the GDD3 higher?

ATI thinks they have slapped Nvidia across the face but in reality, I think Nvidia are gonna come down and crush ATI with its 1ft 5", 3 slot GPU straight across their ass
ATI actually did slap Nvidia across the face, which is why Nvidia was forced to cut prices. Congrats on being an idiot.

Another thing they didnt announce a straight drop in revenue by 400million they said it could be from 1.?billion to 875million. Big difference. I would say it is a combination of them selling the cards at closer to cost, selling less becuase ati has become more competetive, and finally market conditions. The biggest two being ati selling more and the finicial crisis the world is in.

no, Nvidia lowered it's projection 8% from about $1 billion to anywhere between $825-950 million. That's a big drop, especially so late in the second quarter (we are only talking about Q2 numbers here). And I'm not sure, but uhhh, the world isn't in a financial crisis just because the US is.

scare tactics imo.. they are losing the current gpu battle in performance and pricing. most people that are willing to shell out the money for a card like this are the people that read these forums and check the latest tech news... so with the upcoming 4870x2 release why not try to make some prospective buyers rethink and wait a few more months for frivolous news like this.

lol this is so stupid. That is obviously fake. He cites no sources or anything, just "it is said"

all of you who even sarcastically give this credibility need to be a little more skeptical.

This would be a really hard move for Nvidia. They have quite a bit going against them on this one.

If the rumors are true that the next die has more SPs and a different memory controller for GDDR5, they're going to have problems that would be hard to diagnose since they are starting that new die mask on a new manufacturing process. Intel has the right strategy in place (tick-tock) so that they can figure out the kinks of a new manufacturing process on tried and true design and then figuring out the kinks of a new design on a tried and true process.

Even if you assume a linear shrink from 65n to 45nm, which is highly doubtful, then you would get a 50% reduction in die size. However, if they really do plan on adding another 144 SPs, more than 50% of the SPs currently in GTX280, then the additional silicon space saved would be nearly negated. You would end up with a die that would only be a bit smaller than the current GTX280.

Plus, didn't TSMC just delay the availability of their 45/40nm? If that's the case, that would be more of a delay to Nvidia. Not only that, but that could mean that the fab doesn't have all of the kinks worked out , another potential problem for Nvidia to deal with.
