My biggest bottleneck

Thread Starter
Okay, my computer runs like a snail right now, and I have some ideas why, but I'd like some other opinions.

What on my sig rig is the biggest bottleneck, and what should I upgrade to make it a whole lot faster?

I'm saving a CPU upgrade for Nehalem but I might consider it if the CPU is holding my system back.

Ram, hands down. One gb of ram isn't anywhere near enough for vista 64, at least 2gb if not 4gb.
Everything in that system is fine for Vista....However your RAM is holding you back. You really need to run minimum of 2GB when it comes to gaming and perhaps up to 4GB.

Ok then I will add a caveat, "in my experience" 1gb isn't anywhere near enough. If your running the sidebar and a few other things I easily idle at 800mb of 1000mb, so even with warcraft 3 running and firefox I usually around 1040mb's. There we go that clears up my post.

Could try that Speed Disk thing, where you use a USB flash drive to help speed things up! But Ram is your bottleneck for sure.

I'd say the RAM is bottlenecking you massively. It's so cheap now, I'd definetly upgrade.

You are reffering to Readyboost. Readyboost is a good and cheap solution to increasing memory. However it should never be a permanent solution and the read and write speeds between a USB device and USB port is nowhere near as good compared to system RAM.

Both, your CPU and RAM are bottlenecking... You mobo supports up to 1333 fsb for CPU and 1066 fsb for RAM. I'm running 4 x 1gb pc2-8500 on my striker extreme
