major problem with SP3 win xp pro

Thread Starter
ok so i just recently upgraded to sp3 i figured id give em a while to work out the kinks before i did but i assume i upgraded too soon

now that i have SP3 i have a few major problems and some minor ones

a minor problem is once everything is loaded and pc is fully booted the screen goes black this is fixes by when i move my mouse cursor around once i hit a icon it clears up that spot and if i left click and drag it accross the screan it "erases" the blackness revealing my desktop and icons

a MAJOR problem is now when i try to start wow it crashes my pc.. ive never had a bsod or anything like that anytime recently and this doesnt bsod either the screen freezez and the music starts skipping like a scratched record and i cant ctrl+alt+del or alt f4 or anything i have to manualy power down

can i possible roll back to pre sp3 or is their any other solutions thanks in advance

yeah i was guessing thats what it would come down too i was hopeing there was someway to keep sp3 for the security enchancments oh well maybe they will work out the kinks in another 3-6 months...

btw this is official retail xp pro not pirated or anything

Edit: also quick Q. has vista worked out the kinks yet or will i still suffer a 20% GPU and proccesing loss by upgrading

Try something else before rolling back. Reinstall the graphics/mobo drivers, ad SP3 somehow needs the latest drivers. I can't say why, but my rig was quite unstable (which is unheard on my rig) until I updated to Catalyst 8.5 and to the the latest chipset driver. I have to point out nVidia hadn't made a single chipset driver update for AMD's nF4 mobos in like 2 years, but they did it right after the SP3 appeared 2 months ago. It may be your case, too.

Have you tried the chipset drivers? On another rig (also nF4) after installing from scratch win with sp3, it didn't even recognize the older nF4 drivers, we had to put directly the new ones.
