that's like saying technically you have a 3870 because you have 160 bucks.

We'll see, because Hitachi is usually the first company to launch a new storage capacity in the hdd world. Hitachi was the first to launch a 1TB drive and it took months for other hdd companies to come out with theirs.

Yup, I don't know why Seagate is saying they are the world's first 500GB notebook hdd.

past performance isn't an indication of what is happening now. you said hitachi has it. where? is there a place I could buy it? a place on their website that has it? has it even hit the market yet? hell have you even heard plans of them putting this out yet?

I'm assuming you answer is going to be no. so if they don't have it, don't market it, you can't buy it how is it hitachi has a 1.5tb hard drive?

I never said Hitachi has a 1.5TB drive. I said they already have a 375GB per platter drive therefore they could make a 1.5TB drive if Hitachi chose to do so. Samsung and Fujitsu's promised their half terabyte 2.5 hdds to be out in March and May respectively, but where are they? According to your narrow minded logic, "if I can't buy them they don't exist."

One thing is for sure, this 1.5TB is just a "announcement" and the August release date is just a "prediction" just like how Samsung and Fujitsu "promised" that their half terabyte drives were supposed to be on the market months ago.

Who knows, Hitachi may launch a 1.5TB drive before Seagate does. Btw, even with Seagate's announcement, 1.5TB aren't even posted on their website.

makes it (To me at least) sound like nobody should be called the first to have a 1.5tb hard drive all because hitachi has 375gb platters and so hitachi is the first to have a 1.5tb drive. I'm sure there are a few other things are involved then just slapping the platters together and calling it a hard drive.

with the samsung and fujitsu I can't say much because I haven't heard anything there, but then again I wasn't really paying attention. either way though you know what I was getting at with what I was saying with the can't buy it part. I was thinking more along the lines of first to market with it like most people here seem to think with products.

with all this though I'm not saying seagate is the first either. I don't see their product yet either and just as you said it's an announcement.

btw seagate does have atleast a press release announced on their website.

the question is will it be reliable...

i would hate to lose 1.5 TB of data if the drive fails.

but depending on the price i may buy this because my 750 GB HDD is almost full
