Dual Quad Opty SLI Build (Tyan n6650w) - Page 10

LOL that sounded kind of sexist..

I have not had time to test for stability, but I can post some benchmarks if Dracc allows for.(it's his thread after all). I do not expect the setup to oc much more than HT265 +/-. That is where most HT oc's on K10 stops (and that is on single socket setups).

Hi Likmark,

Could you post some of the SMBus values on rebelshaven. So that I can make a matrix for OCL purposes. Interesting areas are listed in the list that I provided.

People are PM-ing me for this OCL, one even offered me so send his whore rig around the world, but VNC should do the trick

Tnx,
2B

Nice Build!

I liked the name Octacon, reminded me of Otacon. Being a big Metal Gear fan...i liked that

Also, check my rig name

It is a niche community, but it is exactly the niche I needed. Expect to see some progress on tweaks on OC from here on out!
Thanks for the thread and link. I have had a hard time finding Dual Quad Core Opteron build information as all the guys over at Anandtech are gamers and Intel junkies.

I will be using my system for 3D Modeling, rendering/animation, FEA, and CFD analyses.

The analysis programs can take full advantage of the multiple processor/cores and require huge amounts of memory. I was thinking of going with Intel but after finding out the only SLI capable Mobo was the Skulltrail and limited to 8GB of RAM, the TYAN board seems like a winner especially since I already purchased 2 nVidia QUADRO 3700s.

Tell me what you think of my build plans. They may change after I read through the link you provided but I am currently looking at:

Processor: (2x) 2358SE or 2360SE (May change my mind if other processor OC well)
Mobo: TYAN S2915WA2NRF
RAM: 16GB- unsure of brand but may just copy you. Also not sure if I want to go 4x4GB or 8x2GB
Graphics Cards: (2x) nVida QUADRO FX 3700
PSU: Undecided, suggestions?
Case: Undecided, but your choice looks intersting. How is the craftsmanship? I definitely don't want to sit next to a leaf blower and the large fans look like they will help.

EDIT: This Mobo requires registered memory, right? I can't get on the TYAN website right now to see what they recommend. If thats the case, looks like I can only go up to 16GB with 2GB sticks since that is all that is available

The 2915-E (S2915A2NRF-E) revision of this board sure is hard to come by. Newegg lists it as "Deactivated" and lots of other retailers are out of stock. From the comments I have seen, it looks to be the best board to fully harnass the Barcelona power.

Yes you'll need registerd memory with quad core Opterons, be sure to choose memory that is compatible. Everything dual socketed/workstation related is hard to come by in the retailers.
