Because your results are way to high, they aren't accurate.

Quick question.

I am planning on getting the Norco 4020 case after my i7 build. I also plan on getting another PERC and running 2x 8 drive arrays. I currently have a set of SAS->Sata Crossover cables which I accidentally bought but never got rid of.

When I make the switch am I gonna need crossovers for the backplanes or pass throughs? Anyone know or have any experience?

The card doesn't come with any heat dissipator on it? I didn't account for this when I started looking at this thing, only after seeing those photos from error10...

So, I have bunch of questions:

1. do I really need those coolers or is a case fan directed over this card enough? Will I see random shutdowns because of heat? This adds to the cost and additional work...;-)

2. Is there a known compatibility problem with this card and Abit AN8 SLI board?

3. I am currently running 2 74g raptors on onboard NVRAID in RAID0 and plan to move it to this card. Apart from drivers updates and windows/linux finding this thing, will I be able to just move disks and have the original data accessible or is this going to be backup, break, build, restore kind of cycle? Looks like the latter but it doesn't hurt to know if the former is possible.

4. How long does this card take to initialize?

I think I am just trying to reduce my pain in this upgrade. I need additional SATA ports, so this looked like a good choice because it buys me additonal 8 ports at reasonable cost.

It has the cooler shown in the "before" picture. It's probably sufficient if you have a LOT of airflow, but I didn't want to take any chances.

You'll almost certainly have to backup your data and reinitialize your RAID array. Linux will recognize the RAID arrays out of the box; Windows will probably need an F6 driver provided at installation time. (Links in the top post.)

It takes about 40 seconds to spin up all my disks since it's doing the whole staggered thing. (And it takes a while to get up to 15,000 RPM.) Adds nearly a minute to my preboot time, but running the RAID array cut my boot time to almost nothing!

1) It comes with its own heatsink. However, it requires some airflow over it. It is too hot to touch even with some airflow.
2) Don't know for sure... RAID cards are fickle. It might work with a chipset but not a particular motherboard due to a BIOS issue.
3) Nope, you need to reinstall or apply an image. The performance increase from 2xRAID0 won't be much.
4) It adds about 20-30s with BBU.

Now here's something odd. Ever since I installed the MegaRAID Storage Manager, I keep getting these popup windows, which tell me absolutely nothing useful. I wouldn't mind if they told me there was a problem, but this is getting silly.

What exactly does that mean? Currently, with NVRAID 2xRAID0 I get around 97MB/s seq write and 120MB/s seq read. With hardware RAID0, I should be able to beat those comfortably, right? no? I will have to consider if I am adding the right component to my PC then...:-(

Also, would I be able to use some ports for non-RAID operation?

Check the MegaRAID logs? Also, check Windows Even Viewer?

RAID0 is relatively "easy" so discrete RAID will boost performance but it won't be much. What's the performance of just drive?

Yes, the controller supports up to 8 drives. None, all, and/or some can in an array or arrays.

Well I am not sure why you feel that way, does anyone else suppose this is true. I wouldn't even think to take this advice without propper backing from the reputable members of this forum. Not trying to insult you but you are new here and have not yet established any reputation supporting your knowledge. I admit I am dumb to this stuff and that is why I am curious to know how you came to that conclusion. You could very well be right and I have no doubts about it, but an explaination is required. Can anyone explain how he came to this conclusion?
