No, your stick is not ECC RAM.

You can change the EEPROM to say ECC, but you can't magically make the stick ECC by so doing. You could make it say it was a 16GB DDR3-2000 stick, too, but it wouldn't actually be one.

Not to mention the RAM you have probably isn't registered, either.

I am trying to decide between 3 1TB drives.

1st choice: Samsung F1 (cheap but I had problems with the 750GB variety with the drives dropping from a raid1 array using intel sata ports)

2nd choice: WD Caviar Black (most expensive of the three but it seems it's worth it. can change TLER)

3rd choice: WD Caviar Green 16MB (almost same price as Samsung. not as fast but I can change TLER)

any recommendations/suggestions?

thank you

I've had no problems with my 5 WD Black's on my PERC 5/i. In fact I don't think I'll buy any other drives other than these.

Price is a slight premium, but I feel it's worth it.

Windows XP did not see the volume in disk management. It saw the volume in device manager. I was able to go in to Acronis Disk director and it saw the volume and then put partitions on the drive but My computer did not see the disk. I shrank the drive down to 2TB and it worked fine. I am using XP 32 right now since I disassembly my main machine. I thought that windows could see larger volumes but could only have a 2.1TB partition with ntfs. Is this a 32bit OS thing and if I was to add another drive would Vista 64bit see it. So I am asking that a 32bit OS can only see a volume up to 2.1TB?
You need to use GPT partitioning. Vista 32-bit supports reading GPT. But only EFI-based machines can boot from GPT.

you guys might want to add AMD chipsets to the fingernail polish mod section too- my buddy had to tape over the SMbus pins, otherwise his 790FX/SB750 mobo would boot loop with the perc installed.
