Are you talking about me or barnet? I appoligize if I came off as patronizing, I did not intend for it to be read that way.

It doesn't matter either way.

It's difficult to argue any point, especially in text, without it seeming some way or another. Regardless, FYI, I do not believe you are an evil person, twirling your mustache in a dark room. Your evil laugh bubbling forth from your lips, as you concoct a master plan entailing midgets, Roswellian DNA, and 12 bottles of original coke.

Uh, where was I.

Anyhow, I do think you are wrong, but there is nothing personal in it. Just data to be discussed....

Naturally, I did not simply run around my raid card, and do hex dumps at random.. then see some bad data, and think "BUG!". Don't be silly.

Perhaps you would like to be more reasonable in your assertions?
I have read all your posts in this thread. I did not find anything about:

a. What exactly were the symptoms that you saw?
b. I did not see the firmware version which crapped out on u?
c. Which other versions did you try?
d. What exact command did you use to get the hexdump you posted?

Also, post the output from 'MegaCli64 -CfgDsply -a0'.

Actually, almost all of the above is available in this thread.

I've passed my message on, but from what I've seen so far, it would probably take a month to walk through this issue with you guys.

This is primarily because each and every one of you, are going to want to argue over each and every point for 4 dozen posts each. Frankly, I don't have time for that.

Good luck, and you have been warned.

Thanks

GEEZ, is it so hard for you to post, concisely, what you have found with command-lines, hex dumps and versions. Stop behaving like you posses "sacred knowledge" that is above us, mortals.

If you came here, post facts.

dude just post it again... why not? or just a link to it.

seriously i have read every one of your posts, and saw nothing but a hex dump.

you seem to think that if you tried to explain it to us then we wouldn't get it .. try me.

edit just thinkin about it, you probably would get more people to take you seriously if you just came in and said

"hey guys, i was running this card with the LSI firmware, and i ran into a bug with arrays over 4 TB. just a heads up, and i will be switching back to the dell firmware to escape any other unforseen bugs."

instead you started with
"ZOMG WARNING EVERYONE WARNING!!11!!!1!!

Don't use the LSI firmware because it is really buggy and all your data will be gone! there are bugs there that slowly corrupt your data, that no one else has ever seen but me, but you wouldn't understand it."

you get more flies with honey than vinegar

you also don't seem to realize what site you are on... this site is not dedicated to stability and longevity of our computers man. we risk data every day by pushing our systems to the limit, where data corruption with raid is an every day occurrence.

since he already said his "good luck", here is my take on this. This dude is a fake! He picked on one aspect, namely that the chip is a LSI chip and you can burn LSI firmware to it, of the first post and basically is spreading FUD about using LSI firmware. I have seen people do this on the net very often. here is why I think this is the case:

a. he refuses to tell us what "bug" he hit?
b. he refuses to tell which version failed?
c. he did not provide what generated that hexdump. I can generate even scarier hexdump but it doesn't mean cr*p!
d. he did not post his card's configuration.

All this tells me that he is a troll who just wanted to spoil everybody's fun with a good cheap raid card.

Given the fact that he insulted our intelligence with almost every post just makes me fell like he was an idiot. Moving on, I will completely ignore that entire conversation unless I hear of some intelligent people having similar issues.
