i agree, after reading this thread a few people tried with "non-registered" and it wont work. also fb-dimm wont work either..

on a note of the cooling.. you guys/gals all know that little fan that comes with some asus motherboards right? the one for the heatsink between cpu socket and the I/O plate? with a little effort, it will fit onto the fins of the perc 5/i heatsink

turns out it cools it quite well!! warm to the touch, unlike before id have to yank my hand away instantly!

on another note, im very excited!! my 8484 to 8482 cable should be here today! (on fedex truck, fedex is evil though! (if it gets here before noon, i may change my opinion though..))

i plan to benchmark my 4x SAS 36GB 15K's in raid0/5 and showoff the results, what programs should i use? i think its hdtach i cant use, (w7. and it has a killswitch for non compadible OSes, hdtach that is...)

with HD tach, you just right click the icon, then go to properties, then compatibility mode, and set it to XP sp2, and run as administrator. You should also test with HD tune, ATTO, and crystal disk mark.

Do you see any noticeable performance differences with the 512 compared to the 256?

do you have your raid5 numbers somewhere in this thread? link? Moreover, do you use LSI firmware for your raid5?

I saw a small difference in Raid0 but never tested with raid 5.

Been wondering the same... I'm running raid5 with the 256Mb stick and thinking about whether or not there is any gain to be had by going to the 512Mb stick.

Hopefully someone will have done the work for us?
