good news and bad..

the ram i ebay'd arrived a few minutes ago. one stick looks DOA though (i wont install it in my system lol)

other stick running fine though! seems faster on bootup for sure with 512MB instead of 256!

attached an image, look for the missing "thing" on the bottom stick near the middle

benchies to come!

oh goody! .. I was just about to beg for benchmark comparisons

and good to know that DDR2 533 works was well, for some reason up here in canada, DDR2 400 is rare or out of my mind expensive and newegg.ca takes too long and I'm always impatient

well your in for a disappointment!

hdtune and hdtach show basically NULL difference.. ATTO and crystal disk mark are off the scale.. (didnt do it with other ram? O_o)

first two tests on crystal show 600-700MB/s read/write.. while atto shows normal writes and 500-600MB/s reads on the second half of the test..

before they were both "average" compared to hdtune/hdtach.. i cannot provide comparison between "before/after" of atto/crystal, as i didn't keep a record for the "before"

bootup was definitely improved though! i would say at least 15-25% less time to boot!

haven't done anything intensive yet "real world" besides bootup.. so i cannot comment on that yet.

I've got a PERC 5 that was working great with Dell firmware. Well, I upgraded to the LSI 0064 firmware and upon the next reboot the card was unrecognized. I tried everything....switching slots, resetting CMOS, pulling battery, etc. Nothing. The system would simply boot up and not see the card. Then finally I unplugged the power cord from the machine and left it overnight. The next day it was working.

So anyway, now it is doing it again...not recognized. I am assuming the LSI firmware is the culprit, but now I'm at a loss as to how to get this thing to recognize so I can flash it back.

I do have a second PERC card here that I borrowed from a friend. It has an older Dell firmware and it works fine in the same motherboard.

The motherboard is an Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe (nVidia nNorce 570 chipset). I'm running the PERC in the primary PCI-E slot and am running an old PCI video card (this is a server). If I put the PERC in the secondary PCI-E slot, the system wont even post at all. The only way the system will POST is if I run the PERC in the primary slot. By comparison, my friend's PERC card (with the Dell firmware) runs in either PCI-E slot. I have tried changing just about every BIOS setting I can think of ("Primary VGA card: PCI/PCI-E", disabling all onboard devices, took out all RAM and put only 1GB in, etc)

I tried flashing my motherboard's BIOS to the latest...to no avail. I tried going back to the previous BIOS version also...still same problem.

I see there is a known ploblem with warm boot and LSI firmware, but mine is nonexistent either warm or cold boot...so I think it might be a slightly different problem. Has anybody else had this problem where flashing to LSI renders the card unrecognizable? I'm pretty certain the card is good as it DID work for a bit after flashing to LSI firmware...it seems it's just acting erratic. Any ideas how I might be able to get this thing up so I can flash it back to Dell firmware?

Pardon me if this has been answered already. I've read about 1/2 of this thread and didnt see this exact problem. I'd appreciate any advice somebody might have.

Thanks!

DuckieHo updated their opening post not long ago saying that there's incompatibilities in some setups, where it's not being detected on warm boots, with the latest firmware. Downgrading to LSI's 0051 or 0056 tends to resolve it.

Hope this helps.

2. One option showed up that I did not have before, under the Operations tab, called Manage Preserved Cache. its greyed out for me. I think this may only work on PERC 6/x cards, but I also dont have a BBU installed at the moment so I cant confirm that, since it may very well be that the 5/i can do it with a BBU installed.

I have a PERC 6/i coming in the mail next week, as well as my replacement BBU for the PERC 5/i so i will report back when i figure that stuff out.

i read this whole thread 2x - very helpful,
i got 3 x perc5/i up and running with 512mb each and went with the latest dell bios - i get 330mb/sec with 4x F1 1TB in raid5.

i bought 5 x bbu and all show up as dead, even after 24 hrs on charge each

each has a different cable so i dont think its the connector or the cards

is there a way to force the bbu to recharge or cycle? cant seem to get the cli utility to do anything

in frustration i took one apart - the 1950mah cell showed only 0.6v so i swapped it for another 3.7v lithium battery onto the bbu charging circuit and the bbu now shows up as working, but the info about charge left, remaining time etc is all zero - i cant figure out how to get it to reset itself, and the next cycle/test date is july 09 according to the megaraid software!

any ideas/help appreciated as i dont want to waste any more money on ebay duff batteries.
