Installed it this weekend... Only... Well... I feel dumb. I failed to notice I had no cables. -Rolls eyes.-

Where would you go to get/order some in Canadia?

at DealExtreme - 4-in-1 SATA to SCSI Hard Disk Data Cable wrong description but this is "SFF8484 to 4xSATA cable"
or SAS Controller 32-Pin to 4 x SATA Hard Disk HDD Converter Cable

Does anyone have a PERC 5/i running on a DFI 790fx-M2rs? If so what bios, Pcie slot, other tweaks did you have to make?

Thanks
mike

Honestly RAID 6 is nice if you want extra protection but its slower than 5 and if you want good performance I would just run RAID 5 with a hot spare. Its not the same as RAID 6 but it is similar in function.
Can you try hooking up a SATA 1.5Gb/s hard drive up to the PERC 6/i? Eric mentioned that might be the reason why the old Raptors aren't detected.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that it only supports SATA2 drives because of the NCQ. That could actually be a problem with the old Raptors, because even if they could report as SATA2 (not 100% sure about that), I think they used some modified version of NCQ. I could see that screwing things up.

Garrrrr.... can anyone verify?

I don't even want NCQ activated as it hurts performance for single users.

and I should have really fast RAID 5 workstation - 6 +2 as hot-spare or RAID 0+1 - 4+4 (stripe+mirror) - will be faster and safer
What product is that? It looks sweet for a SSD setup.

If I were you... I'd be running raid0 on 4 drives, get them set up perfectly and then cloning them onto the other 4 (a 2nd raid0 set, identicle to the 1st set) then unplugging them and letting them just sit there... ie: raid0+1, but with absolutely no chance of corruption, viruses, no wear & tear, etc.

In fact... if it's an easy task, i'd probably go all 8 drives in raid0, and then clone that onto an external drive or something so you can rebuild at whim. I'm not sure about scaling of that many drives into a raid0 array... speed may not simply continue to climb, but assuming it did... wow.

but there is only info that driver for "Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 (RHEL)" for PERC 6/i don't support SATA drives - there is no info that card can't work with SATA drives without NCQ ...
