PERC 5/i RAID Card: Tips and Benchmarks - Page 186

post #1851 of 7150
So a couple questions, I set up my 2 velociraptors as a RAID0 on the card, made them bootable and then cloned my OS drive over to it, however I can not boot to Windows using them, any suggestions on that?

Also, if this is my OS drive, is one stripe better than the other? I.E. should I use the default 64k or the 128k or go really small with 16k?

Thanks

P.S. Still working on the Blood Rage conflict.

I went with 64K for my OS drive

It wont boot because windows uses physical drive locations in the boot.ini, the best way to fix it is to do a repair install, but you can also manually edit the boot.ini if you know which physical drive it is...

This is a sample of a default Boot.ini file from a Windows XP Professional computer, Vista will be different.
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\\WINDO WS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\\WINDOWS="Micr osoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect

so you need to know which combination of numbers to put in there, not for the faint of heart. repair install is easy and always works.

for VISTA the bootloader is different. you need to use BCDEDIT.EXE from the recovery console. honestly its easiest to just repair install

Can it be a false warning?

I'm about to go ahead and flash the latest firmware.....hopefully all will go well

All right, flash complete. It takes a reboot (of course) to finalize. Here are screens just after flash with the MegaRAID Storage Manager, and after a reboot you can see that I have the current.
This is in VIsta x64 with 4x500GB RAID0 (OS array) and 4x500GB RAID5 (data array.)

binormalkilla, did you ever experience the warm boot issues with 0064? If so, are they resolved with 0066?

Question...if I put 4 SSD drives in RAID0 on the PERC 5/i, and I want to add a couple 2 TB drives for media storage on top of that, can I still attach the 2 TB drives to the PERC 5/i? Or will I need to throw them through the motherboard's SATA ports? I don't want the 2 drives added with the RAID, because obviously that's impossible. I've just never set up RAID before, so I don't know how it works in this regard.

Same, would like to know if you had warmboot issues as well. Im on 64 and i'm coming up with Error10's if I warm boot.

Flashed to 0066. Still have warmboot error Code 10 Device cannot start.

Cold boots seems fine..

Using a MSI P35 NeoF in the 16x slot.

Hey Dukie, nice find! Rep+

Has anyone ran one of these on a P5N32-E SLI?

Also, it is a long thread... is the limit still 1TB drives or is that only for the PERC6/i?

So I'm assuming the PERC doesn't initialize during POST after the warm boot?
