What kind of extra cooling did you add? If it was a fan, I doubt the Perc 5i died from heat. If you added on an after-market heatsink/fan combo, did you make sure it was seated properly?

Hope it raises from the ashes, so to speak.

here's the cooling i added: http://www.overclock.net/hard-drives...ml#post5766378

i used arctic alumina thermal adhesive on the chips so i doubt i will be able to get the heatsinks off now.

There's only three things I can think of to do if the bios doesn't see it.

1. Take out all other expansion cards and clear CMOS, restore defaults.
2. Re-flash BIOS on the motherboard and hope that works.
3. If all else fails, test it in another machine to see if it boots.

How heavy is that hs/fan combo? If its too much weight you may have a drama, as the die the hs/f contacts with is only small 10mm^2.

well well.. i did something foolish tonight.. i flashed back to the dell firmware to test if thats why i was having random lockups while gaming.. and guess what i realized after i got smacked in the face by a big error on boot? i had my stripe size too high for the dell firmware!

cannot figure out how to flash from bios.. any help would be greatly appreciated! example: firmware like 2MB alone so floppy = nono.. and my bootable USB drive shows the right size in disk manager but not in explorer??? so i cannot fit the data on there either!

thanks for the offer of help. however i was about 3.5 minutes to late to read your pm.

i have managed to get the dos floppy to read a usb thumb drive was totally not aware this was possible.. but with my wish to succeed at fixing it at about any cost.. i tried it

had to google some dos commands.. im a young overclocker i never really touched DOS before...

anyhow. i had to rename the rom to 1.rom for it to work. something about file names or something?

also! even though i went into the <ctrl> + <R> menu, and tried to erase the config off the perc hoping it would then import the data off the drives as foreign.. it still detected my array as "100% perc array" and booted up first try, no mess with foreign stuff hats off to the perc for being smart enough to do that

*happily goes back to gaming now that his rig is fixed*

not very heavy at all - not enough for it to put stress on the board.
