as far as i know the tape mod is only needed for intel chipsets.

perhaps an amd user who has more experience with this could be of more help.

No, I don't unfortunately. I was looking for the same info awhile ago to diagnose my dead BBU, but couldn't find anything. The only way I was able to test was getting a 6/i with a BBU and trying both batteries on the 6/i and 5/i, which told me it was the connector on the card that was bad and not the BBU.

did you see anything wrong with/around connector ?
could you tell me please what battery model number(s) you have ? my battery is TYPE# P9110 or 0U8735 - but I found info that NU209 is also good model number ... I need to buy new battery asap ...

edit: or FR463 ...

I have the NU209

The connector looked fine, but I didn't have time to mess with testing for continuity with a multimeter or anything like that.

The card dont work correctly. I cant enter the PERC BIOS with CTRL+R with the LSI firmware.

I have a 5/i with Dell firmware, and have the same problem - the PERC BIOS doesn't come up on boot/reboot. The drivers loaded fine in Win Server 2008, and the LSI RAID Manager works fine as well - I just can't get into the BIOS.

i had a series of bad batteries from various suppliers - couldnt find any info at all, so in the end i broke open the package and removed the old 1950mah cell and attached an unprotected 18650 2000mah battery to the charging circuit inside the black box - works great and cost about $5 for the new cell

it also works with protected cells but not sure about charging status etc from the bbu electronics - i also tried a cell phone battery and a nintendo ds battery - all work fine if they are 3.7v lithium and just wrapped up the package in electrical tape with the thermocouple stuck to the battery cell so that the bbu electronics knows the temp of the cell as per original.
