The benchmark is slower and I have notice no difference in applications speeds. If you havent gotten these drives I would go SSD. Just my 2 cents.
I already have the drives, I'll benchmark my 150GB Raptor and then try the 3 drives in raid 0. If the results are like you say I'll probably sell the drives and perc

for $80-$100 you will have full PERC 5/i with battery ...

Hey guys,

I've been following this thread on and off for about 6 months.
I haven't had a lot of time b/c of other stuff, but I bought all the components I'd need for my raid system last October.
My first raid card failed to flash. It showed,

Failed to get ControllerId List.
Failed to get CpController object.

My card showed up in windows, but applying a dell driver never worked.
So I tried another Perc5i card... same problem.
So I tried a perc6i card... This one shows all my drives, but when I go to enter configuration, it simply doesn't work and continues loading windows after a delay of about 10secs.

Here's my configuration:

5 x 750gb Seagate 7200.11
perc5i (I have 2 both are the same hardware version)
I have the proper 512mb ram (Kingston ecc) as recommended here.
My mobo: ASUS M3A78-EM (AMD chipset= Sempron Le-1100 <low vltge>)

Got any suggestions for me? I did everything I could possibly try and failed at everything. I followed instructions given by DuckiHo religiously and I've come to my end.

I see that you got yours to work Manyak, how did you do it? I've gone nuts!

I figured I'd try everything I possibly could before I posted, but I've hit that point. I have already spent far more than i'd planned (2 mobos 3cards) and my HDD's are now worth less than the price point I paid for them. ($68 ea) Which was good like 8 months ago (when I got them.)

Thanks for any help.

How were you trying to flash the card? From Windows? I'd say just from your post that maybe your Windows install is getting in the way, have you tried a temporary clean install of windows? Also, what bios is on the card atm? Does it detect drives and let you create VD's? Have you tried the tape mod? I take it your using onboard video? Tried a clear cmos?

Hey Rampage:
I was using the LSI flash utility from a windows command prompt to flash the drives.
They were all tried on a clean install of windows.
I'm not sure what bios is on the cards (Perc5 ones) b/c I am never able to access them.
The 6 is: 6.14.10 (from 9/2007)

Attempting CTRL-C gets me "Configuration of SAS will commence after initialization" or something close to that anyway...

I am using onboard video, yeah.
I was able to get the 6 to successfully recognize my drives, but never was able to configure them or make a VD at all.

I haven't tried the tape mod b/c its an AMD system. Should I try it anyway?

Is there any Windows utilities for the Perc.
Thanks

I flashed mine from within the LSI MegaRAID manager/Dell SAS RAID Manager.

Definitely try the tape mod, as I've had to use it with my 790FX board, and I also had to use primary PCI-E slot (you won't have that issue).
