Oh who knows, you might get a PM from someone who's keen on one.

Otherwise, there's always eBay.

Well, I just got my 1.5TB Seagate's in and something funny is happening. I have them connected to my PERC 5/i and they keep parking the heads over and over, like they aren't connected. However, sometimes the PERC will find them and I can go into the configuration and create an array, but I can't initialize it. All the while, the heads are parking over and over.

Other times, it will only recognize 2 of the 3. Other times, it will error out and not recognize anything.

Before installing the 3 Seagates, I had tested the card with a 640g WD and it recognized fine and I could read/write to it with no problems.

I tried a single Seagate on it and it does the same thing, continually parks the head. Any thoughts?

sounds like you have bad drives. The sound that you hear when heads park, if its repeated periodically, it means there is something wrong with the mechanics inside. Just return the drives that do this and get a replacement asap.

Btw, I use seagate 1tb drives with Perc 5i without issues.

Hmm, the drives are brand new, just got them from newegg yesterday. I did a bit more testing. 1 drive doesn't continually park, but the other 2 do. I also noticed on Newegg that this model has gotten a lot of bad reviews lately for DOA's. So maybe just bad timing to buy, lol. I'll hook em up to normal sata cable and see what happens.

I'll send back the 2 that are causing the issue and hopefully that will fix the problem. Thanks.

Yup, continually park on a normal sata connection to the MB. Back to newegg these 2 go. Damn, I really wanted to start migrating my movie collection this weekend.

Thanks again, I never would have thought they were DOA. At least, not for a while.

Before you do that.... check for a firmware update.

what I have noticed about newegg packing the bare drives is that they are not protected from all sides. I have gotten drives sometimes with all the bubbles blown from one side and anti-static cover having scratches from the box. That's a sure shot way of killing a hard drive. So, most likely they are damaged.

I wish they start putting more padding around the drives when they ship. They will learn with more DOA's being RMA'ed.

Well good news and bad news:

The card works without any modification on my Abit IP35-Pro. I can't access the management screen from bootup, but after downloading the LSI management software I can see the card, and all attached drives, and all is good.

However, as soon as I create a new array for my drives, be it 0, 5, 6 or 10, it will work fine for about 5-10 minutes, but eventually my DVD-ROM will flash, and the computer will lock up, requiring a reboot. On the reboot, every single time, port 1 or port 2 of my motherboards SATA RAID controller (two Raptors in raid-0) will fail to detect the drive, forcing me to reboot again. After the reboot it will boot up to the OS detection screen, and come back with OPERATING SYSTEM NOT FOUND. I have to reboot once more, go to the advanced options screen for windows 7, and boot from there. This will continue until I delete the new RAID volume from the card. Once it's gone the system is rock stable.

Any idea's as to the cause? I've been searching around the internet for answers and haven't found anything yet. Could it be due to the write cache method I am using and the fact that I don't yet have a BBU for the card?

And you are still thinking that it work OK ? I think you SHOULD do pin-mod ...

Dead/not-connected BBU shouldn't be a problem - I've played with 5 dead/good batteries and no problems ... but dead cache memory module - could be a problem ...
