well, absolutely sure.tried 1000 times...but may post some pictures :-)

hdds are powered from checked (voltage and stability measured) 550W PSU together with the whole computer. they are normally detected by onboard ICH9r and working. My MOBO is Asus P5K premium with P35 - so card has a 5-6pin "tape mod".

unfortunately cannot test on another mobo now, maybe next week i will have an opportunity to do that.

thanks in advance for all tips - and for this whole well maintained thread

Does it come with memory? If not, be prepared to spend $18 shipped for a 512MB DIMM (might as well since a 256MB DIMM will save only $2-4 less).

FYI, mine doesn't run hot at all, haven't reapplied the bracket or anything either. However, this is just a storage array on it right now. Adding 4 drives that are more commonly accessed could drastically change things.
I used the PCI bracket from an old AGP card or NIC.

Weird, if you ever get the chance would you take a pic of the Intel CPU? I'm curious if you have a different revision. Mine is the hottest component in the system.

Try removing the card and confirm the tape is still there? I have to reapply the tape everytime I pull the card.

Try booting into OS and use the LSI Interface to access the card. Are the hard drives detected there?

One of the screens lists physical hard drives. Post some pics and maybe it is something small.
Once again...

1/ Confirmed. Many times.

2/ no, they are not visible there.

3/ will make some pictures asap, but I'm sure they are not visible in this sectopn of card bios - the same with corresponding view in LSI storage management

I know this controller from my work - we used them formerly in our customer's dell servers...but running it on non-dell hardware seems to be more problematic than awaited...in the worst case, I will buy 3ware controller, which is almost as good as perc5/i...and is capable of raid6

I have 2 major questions:

First, if I already have an array built on the card with the Dell BIOS, and I flash it to the LSI BIOS, will I lose the array?

Second, is there a way to use OCE with the Dell BIOS?

He also said that I live in Canada and didn't notify him that I am from there even though before I bid on the item I said I was from Canada and asked how much shipping costs would be.
In the description of the item, it said a backplate and bbu cable were included. I think you should contact ebay first before giving negative feedback because he just give it back to you.

Agreed 100%. Don't let this guy get away with it...now I feel like an ass for buying one from him.

@Duckie

I'll snap a shot when I figure out what exactly I'm gonna do to replace the stock heatsink.

I just want to show you what his last email said

Quote:
Sorry about accusing you that you did not notify me ahead of time that you were in Canada. I forgot about it and I did not see a copy of your PM in my e-mail or Ebay inbox at the time of writing the e-mail.

However, I did not fimy error until I was ready to ship it out but could not access my account before it was too late. I am sorry for wasting your time but please be aware that I have already refunded the amount in full after I discovered that error. Please accept my sincere apology.

Thanks for understanding.
and before i bought it i asked how many he had left and for how much he said that he had 8 left and if i wanted to do buy them they would be $140 each.

Could offer him half the difference, it would still be a pretty good deal.

Otherwise screw 'im.
