Doh! I should have looked.

But I bet if you upgraded your motherboard and used onboard RAID you'd probably increase your throughput from 150MB/s max to around 250MB/s average.

I read up on the thermal specs: http://download.intel.com/design/iio...s/30663002.pdf

The Tj maximum temperature is 110C. However, do NOT run the IOP333 passively. The heatsink needs force airflow. Intel's thermal analysis used a heatsink of the same size but with more fins (hence better). However, they require a minimum of 200LFM with there heatsink. Over the surface the PERC stock heatsink, that is at least 4CFM. Do realize that if you used a 80mm fan, you would need a higher CFM rating of around 16CFM. This is assuming that the 80mm fan is next to the HS.

Bottom Line: Make sure to force air cool the PERC 5/i CPU. The card is designed for Dell servers with forced air.

Where did you get that 150MB/s limit? PCIe x1 has 250MB/s bandwidth. The RocketRAID 2300 maxes out at around 200MB/s.

You're right, I have no idea why I was thinking 150. . I feel stupid now because this is something I knew! lol.

And yeah I was wondering why the HSF was so tiny. I already replaced the thermal pad with AS5, too. And I got a fan on the side of my case that actually hits the card's slot directly, so it should be ok I think. Thanks for the warning though.

Oh yeah, and I just got the cables in the mail today So once I install and flash this thing I'll switch my array over to it.

Ok so the computer booted up just fine without the pin mod Well, almost. It now only detects 3GB of ram. And yeah it gets ridiculously hot, I'm about to turn it off and look for a better heatsink.

Either way, I'm unable to flash its bios. When I try it gives me the error:

Failed to get ControllerId List.
Failed to get CpController object.
Any ideas?

Try the pinmod... you have an Intel X38.

As for the error, did you follow my method? Is the new BIOS in the correct folder with the flash program? Did you include the -a0 flag?

My cables came in today as well.

So should this or shouldn't it be better than onboard RAID0?

Sweet

And yeah, I'm getting this error even with the pinmod (but I no longer get the reduced RAM). And yes, its the exact method you posted.

Also, I don't know if it means anything, but the message I get about the battery doesn't say anything about pressing D to disable it - it might be a different revision maybe?

Hmmm...
There is some discussion of that issue here: http://fixunix.com/freebsd/493686-re...-7-stable.html
and here (HardForum is currently down though): http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1266581

Other the BIOS flash, can you get it up and running?
