PERC 5/i RAID Card: Tips and Benchmarks - Page 302

Your RAM upgrade should not affect your benchmark scores at all (especially your read results).

Switch to a larger stripe (whatever the largest you can get will probably be best for you, but remember you can't go back to the Dell firmware with the larger LSI stripe sizes).

Your scores still seem pretty low though - with a 128k stripe you should be faster. I wonder if your crazy filesystem causes a performance hit?

as recommended in a previous post. I will post more benchies when it's in...
I highly doubt the extra cache will increase your read performance.... if you were running Linux, I could tell you how to tune it, but I don't know how to tune NTFS or whatever Windows file system you're using...

Memory really only helps write performance, not read performance.

I did an I/O test and the system write performance was a sheer cliff at 256MB files.
Once again...

The Gigabyte GA-x58-UD5 should do what you need.

yeah the gig ud5 is the only one i have seen that will almost work the only thing is even with my water cooled gpus there isnt enought room for a pci card because the water or even air coolers require 2 slots

unfortunatlly the standard sli layout boards that use slots 1 & 3 for dual sli wount work because the perc with sata cables woult allow for use of any sli bridg i have ever seen

Hey guys, I have a quick question. I have a 790fx-gd70. I have been able to get the perc5/i to work, but i can't boot from the perc directly. For some reason it says that the OS is missing. If i install another hard drive to the motherboard with an OS it boots and then gives me the option to choose between the perc and the other hard drive. This is how i have been booting from the perc. Is there away around this that i am missing??

I am currently on the 1.5b2 beta bios.

Edit: I just installed W7 64bit to a partition on the perc. If i boot from the perc W7 loads just fine. Not really sure what the issue or problem is but the systems doesn't recognize the vista install.

Well i currentl have 7TB of data on the drive, and correct me if i'm wrong but I can't change the stripe size without formatting the drive? If so i'll haver to live with it till the projects finished as it's too much of a hassle to restore 7TB of backups. Also, when i mentioned the weird file system, i was referring to the file system the camera hard disk uses. The file system for this RAID is NTFS GPT. Any other ideas why my scores are so low?

I know SAS 5/iR will only support raid 0 and 1. And the PERC 5/i will support 0, 1, 5, 10, 50. Also i know that the PERC uses a Intel IOP333 on-board processor where the SAS uses a Integrated ARM processor. Also the PERC is a x16 pci-e, and the sas is a x8. The PERC has 256MB of cache the SAS doesnt have cache memory. but If i want to use raid 0... Is there going to be a big speed difference between the 2?
