PERC 5/i RAID Card: Tips and Benchmarks - Page 311

Windows is installed on the 80GB drive that is connected to the motherboard header so it didn't need drivers to install to that. I believe the drivers I have installed are from http://www.lsi.com/storage_home/prod...ex.html#Driver. I will try reinstalling them some time today and see if that helps the problem (I faintly remember doing this before, but that may have only been firmware that I tried).

any help would be nice.
Did you do the old hit F6 to install SCSI/RAID drivers when it asked you too? I think this still applies to Vista x64.

it doesnt apply in vista there is a screen that comes up to select drives and there is a load drivers option there. however Vista is suposed to have native support for the card. I did a scan for the driver and didn't find it.
I also have been looking online for the driver to load it and can't seen to find the driver for vista 64bit.

Thanks.
Did you already intialize the drivers in the PERC 5/i's BIOS screen?

If so, go to the Vista installer's Advanced option and load the drivers.
Once again...

I have a 2 part yes and no answer.

I tried to initialize the virtual drive however it came up as failed.
I disabled the controler bios and it then it initialized however when I re enabled the controller bios it went to offline. I forced it online and still cant see the drives. I have been unable to load the drivers as I have not found the right ones.

I was after some advice as wo whether or not it is safe/wise to turn these services off? And if anyoone knows exaclty what these services do other than monitoring the RAID and if they improve teh performance of the RAID or not.

They are:

mrmonitor.exe
javaw.exe
popup.exe
VivaldiFramework.exe

I am running the 5i in a P6T with 7x 1.5TB seqagetes in RAID5...
You need the LSI MegaRAID only if you have to operate on the RAID configuration or if you want to receive the events from the card.
You can uninstall the manager without problems. You can also reinstall the manager when you need it.

Did you really have to ask the original question then?

If your initialization failed, the logical response is theres something wrong you need to find out why... not ask why Vista won't see your drives -_-

Take the HDDs off the PERC controller, find another drive or use 1 of them to install an OS on, then run a deep error scan on both drives. I think you have a few bad sectors

well.... I removed the card installed Vista in a raid config using the onboard raid controller on the asus p6t deluxe OC palm edition and it worked fine.
Went back cleared the drive and the prior "forgin" config and as I said the drives would initialize without the controller bios enabled. but when re-enabled would go offline. forced them online after the were initalized however they were still not appearing in the install screen.

To answer your question.... yes I felt the question was worthy of a post.
I have never used this card before I have read the manual followed the troubleshooting in the manual, and as I said it is probally something easy that I am missing. however I have tried what I can the drivers that I have tried still don't help, I am at a loss and looking for help.

It seems that Server03 doesn't want to install the driver from LSI's site, and automatically installs 2.8.0.64. I try openning the oemsetup.inf or nodev.inf and the Add Hardware Wizard doesn't show anything. If I select the "DELL PERC 5/i SCSI Disk Device" from the list, the Wizard says "This device is working properly." This is all running the most current version of the LSI firmware. I'm not sure if I'm doing this the wrong way, or if there is another way of installing it. Hopefully someone with a little more experience with Windows Server 2003 can give me some advice on the correct way to install the drivers.

Hi I am also having trouble installing Windows onto my perc 5i. When I use the Windows 7 RTM it finds my raid 5 partition fine, but will not install onto the partition.

Everything went through fine on the PERC bios.
My original boot on another hard drive finds the Raid 5 easily enough and can do tests on the hard drive. I just can't install windows onto the hard drive.

I get an error which says "Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. See the Setup log files for more information."
