My original boot on another hard drive finds the Raid 5 easily enough and can do tests on the hard drive. I just can't install windows onto the hard drive.

I get an error which says "Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. See the Setup log files for more information."
You could try loading the Vista drivers through the installation program. If they are compatible, Windows 7 will detect them on a USB and tell you they are fine to install.

I just installed the latest LSI firmware, but now I am not sure how to get it onto the flashdrive so I can load it when in the Installation of Windows

If you have another PC just download the drivers there and put it on a USB stick. Then at the HDD selection screen choose Load Driver...

Does anyone have any more help to offer for the problem I have been having?

Ive been good for about 4 months now on my setup, until I started getting a "device cannot start - Code 10 error" Talking about out of date firmware. The firmware was a bit old (though I thought this error usually meant something else with the PCI-E bus), so I updated it.

Once updated, it could no longer see any of the VD setups, nor could I import a foreign config.

I've tried building a new Raid5 without initializing, but I can't seem to get at the data. At this point, no write type operations have been attempted, its all been very cautious moves to try to save the data. If I mount each drive individually, I tried a raid recovery utility that reads a ntfs partition, but of the wrong size.

Anyways, I'm not messing with it anymore tonight until I get a better plan, I dont want to accidentally overwrite. Important data is backed up, but I'd prefer to recover this as its all nicely sorted.

Thoughts?

Try the latest Dell firmware or the previous versions of the LSI firmware - this fixes the warm boot issue for some.

Also, what motherboard? This seems to be more common on NVIDIA chipsets.
Once again...

I have the same problem. I'm using the LSI 7.0.1-0051 fw because with all the newer fws the warm boot issue is present. I have an Intel i5400 chipset.
