you used mounting from stock heatsink?

I left the original heatsink untouched. I used only the fan from the CoolerMaster heatsink (when I bought it, I was searching for a simple 40 mm fan, but it's was unavailable at the moment, and I bought the coolermaster) and I screwed it directly on the original heatsink (it's better than the coolermaster). The fan screw aren't inserted in an hole, but the screw thread is caught between two heat sink fins (exactly as for the coolermaster heatsink). The distance (step) between the sink fins for both heatsink are the same, so the fan can be fixed without problems (the screws are "tapping screw" - sorry for the name - I hope that it's correct. I'm not English native language and I found the term on vocabulary).

You can see the type of mounting in the original coolermaster heatsink.

Probably there are other 40mm fans that are suitable for the job, but you have to check if the distance between the holes is the same and find a correct screw (if too thin, the screw thread can't be blocked, if too thick the screw can't be inserted).

Hi all,

I'm currently running a Perc 5/i with the LSI 0056 firmware. I'm thinking of upgrading to the 6/i... two questions:

1) is there any change that it will be able to just pick up my RAID? I have a 4TB RAID, and it'll be a massive nightmare to wipe it and redo it, heh.

2) Are there any actual performance benchmarks between the two? I hunted around, even tried reading this thread, but for the life of me couldn't find any side-by-side ones.

Any help welcome. Thanks very much!

OK, I bought some of this ram to upgrade from 256 to 512:

Samsung 512MB 1Rx8 PC2-3200R-333/400 DDR2 ECC RAM DIMM Memory

http://cgi.ebay.com/512MB-1Rx8-PC2-3...d=p3286.c0.m14

After I installed the new stick, I experienced BSOD's everytime I did some rendering using data from the RAID. Everything was fine once i switched back ot the 256mb stick.
I would like some advice on whether or not it is a compatibility issue or a faulty stick of RAM, in which case i will return it for a replacement.

Any one else using this RAM? I can attach a screeny if that helps...

I bought 2 stick of this ram from the same ebay seller (one for me and one for a friend of mine). It's working flawless on our 2 Perc 5i/integrated.

Can anyone tell me the order in which the ports go?

#0-7

I have a drive I believe is failing, and it's PD:0. I just want to know which the card classifies 0 to be. I don't want to unplug the wrong one.

I ran into the same issue, i've since labeled things for future reference. But, the way I figured it out was to use the Dell OMSA tools and read off the serial numbers for the failed drive. I then matched it against the serial number on the label of the drive itself.

Do you remember which port Drive #0 is on, and which way it goes?

If not, I'll do the same. Just wondering for quick reference. I'm at work now, so I can't do it

hmmm.. i probably won't be of much help. i remember it in the sense of the orientation of the drives in my server, it was right most drive was 0:0 and left most was 1:7, but how that is wired up in the backend to the card would be something i'd have to go and open up the server to check. sorry...

Hello everyone,

This topic seems to gather a lot of skilled guys about the PERC 5/i and I'm wondering which is/are the difference between the PERC 5/i and the PERC 5e

Is someone able to clarify it for me?

Thanks in advance,

Regards,
