Noone wants to help me ?.. i have some new info on this sh**.ok dell Perc 5/e REV A01 (0650week)doenst seem to have smbus pins(pin 5&6) connected anywhere on the card... it just ends.so my next guess is that my motherboard doesnt realize that the x8 card has been put in and auto sets to PCIE 2.0 x16.i guess that dell perc works on PCIE 1.0 right ?
I think i wont be able to make the card work on my motherborad so ill probably change it.. anyone know if the card works on Asus M3n-HT deluxe ?

PS: what are the white connector below the lsi logic chip and the 3 pin header next to that annoying speaker..

Its not necessarily that no one wants to help you, its that no one with experience with the 5/e has come forward to read your post yet. Be patient and if someone knows how to troubleshoot your issue, then they will come forward.

Glad you got it fixed, but remember that very few people have the external version of the card, as for many it is much less useful. None of the internal PERCs even has a speaker, so few could re-create your problem.

Patience is key, as the more times you post about an issue the less likely anyone will actually bother to help you as you become annoying...

Yes!

for information to others.. perc 5e is almost identical to perc 5i. there are two diffirences that some would see and some would not.. 1st is the speaker as u mentioned.. second is that the sm bus pins 5&6 are not connected and so they dont mean squat. no sence on taping them as they dont do anything.. and as i went through alot of info on the net i got to one conclusion.. Perc 5i/e will work on all the motherboards that have means to run two pcie at at least x8 lanes and pcie 1.0. as i saw some boards cannot run pcie 1.0 protocol if there is a card that runs on pcie 2.0 present in the system. And if the motherboard cant run simultaneus two pcie x16 the preformance of graphic card may be lower with perc in the system. my 8800gt has almost same benchmarks on x8 as it had on x16.. but for more powerfull graphic that could be a big issue to think about. so if u want everything to run at full speed u need motherboard that has at least 3pcie slots because usualy thoose boards support 2 x x16 pcie..

I'm having trouble updating to the newer Dell firmware on my perc5i. I've got the card installed on an asus m3a76-cm running WHS. When i run the RAID_FRMW_WIN_R189337.EXE package it checks my system then errors and i get "This update package is not compatible with your system configuration."

Is there any way to bypass this? I extracted the contents of the exe but don't know what to run. My motherboard doesn't even have a place to install a floppy drive so i can't do it like that.

:Edit:Just tried FRMW_WIN_R169302.EXE, "This update package is not compatible with any of the devices detected in your system". i don't get it, the card shows up fine in Device Manager.

There are two different cards. One is a Perc 5/i and the other a Perc 5/i Integrated. They don't have compatible firmware. You'll find one is listed under the Precision 690, the other under the PowerEdge 2950.

Perhaps you were trying the wrong one?

My cables arrived this morning, just finishing off backing up so i can set the thing up but got a few questions.

If I want to use the LSI drives do I need to be using the LSI firmware?
What strip size and other settings should I use for the Raid 5 array, caching stripe size etc...?

No, that's not what I said... I chose my words very carefully for a reason.

The Precision 690 was offered with a Dell PERC 5/i Adapter, which is not firmware compatible with the Dell PERC 5/i Integrated that was sold in the PowerEdge 2950 (and other server).
