I just got it yesterday and it was working well with the default Dell firmware. I decided to upgrade to the latest LSI firmware but that wasn't a good idea probably.

The firmware update itself completed succesfully (at least no errors) but after rebooting I don't see the configuration screen and windows does not recognize the device anymore.

I tried booting into dos and perform a downgrade but unfortunatly this also doesnt work. It just hangs and only shows the dos4gw screen.

EDIT:

Strange thing; As a final resort I switched the card from one PCI-E slot to another and guess what? It worked again. Then I switched back to the original slot and.... Yes it worked also.. Strange, but I'm a happy!

Yeah.... I don't think you can brick expansion cards since you're not using them to boot. You can just reflash.
Once again...

Well, I've got the PERC 6/i from Borito and low and a behold, it works perfectly. I've been running RAID 5 with 1MB, WB, ARA, Cached I/O and all has worked fine. I average about 450MB/s with a 10.8ms response time on hd tune.

I do have a question though. The battery/cable that came with the card worked at first. It showed having a 1230mAh charge, it did some learn cycles, showed proper voltage, proper amperage drain and all that. Now, however, it will not charge. It will discharge properly, but it won't charge up. I've tried disconnecting and reconnecting the cable, and making sure it is in tight. Not sure what else to try. Weird that it worked for the first discharge and now doesn't charge. Any thoughts?

Borito is really nice about things, you should contact him about the issue and he will be able to fix it for you. It sounds like the battery might be defective, but it could also be the card itself. I had a 5/i from eBay that would not charge the BBU, the seller sent me a new BBU and that didn't work either, so I just sent him both the card and the BBU back for a full refund and bought a 6/i from Borito.

Interesting. I REALLY hope it's not a bad card. I'm really tired of sending cards back in... Ok so it was just a SAS 6/iR that was supposed to be a PERC 6/i and a bad PERC 6/i but still.

It's definitely not heat, the heatsink on the PERC is luke warm to the touch, I've got about 90CFM flowing directly over it and the battery.

Here:

I haven't run a continuity test on it yet, but I wish I could just get 100% everything working. Controller is fine it seems, great speed/stability, for now I forced WB.

i think its the battery, not the card. When my card was messed up, the BBU didnt even show up in MSM.

I just got my second 6/i, I am going to test the BBU now to be on the safe side...

I got a Perc5/E BBU from ebay. In title it said 5/E, but in description had both 5/i and 5/E with the relative Dell serial numbers for the BBU.I noticed that i was mistaken when i saw the cable, which is different. I ordered the JC881 V2 cable and connected it on my card.

I thought it would work in my Perc5/i, but seems that it cannot be charged...It is not even recognized -> "BBU Present :No"

Is it that the BBU is not wotking or is it just incompatible ? Has anyone used ever a Perc5/E battery in a Perc5/i ? Maybe i should just return it?

If I am not mistaken, the 5/e battery is attached to the RAM. So if that is in fact the case, the 5/e battery would not work with the 5/i. I have never seen the 5/e in person but have read about it and I am pretty sure that was one of the "features" of the card, if the card died, you could take the RAM (with attached BBU) and put it into another PERC 5/e, attach your infiniband cables and have it write the cache back to the disks on the now working card.

The Perc5/E indeed has the BBU connected in the RAM module. It's BBU cable is shorter, has same connector with JC 881 cable for Perc5/i BBU, but on both ends and has the same number of wires. BBU for the Perc5/E has something like a holding bracket embedded, in order to mount on the RAM module.

I thought that having the same connector and same specs (3.7V / 7Wh) could do the job for me. Part Number is :

JP-0X8483-71763-78T-D747 and it's REV A01.

I think i'll contact the seller for clarification.

Thank you for your help, DJZeratul
