Not sure what the issue is, but a re-flash might be a good idea. Despite what the guy on the other forum says you do not need the LSI firmware - in fact I would recommend the latest Dell firmware anyway (at least until you get things working).

yeah, the fanned cooler definitely takes up one slot below it. i think you could get away with a card in the second slot, though.
if you needed the extra pci space you could use an adhesive HS for the ARM and leave the stock black HS on there, putting a fan at the end of the card blowing down the slot would work.

I also considered some low profile heatsinks like from a video card but I couldn't get them to align with the retaining arms =/

i bet a good ati low-pro cooler would work. something like this:

that came off (i think) an old ati All-In-Wonder card I had like 20 years ago
this one works off push-pegs though. It might hold down with some creativity

i'll try that out. thank you.
I don't have a floppy drive connector on this mb unfortunately. i'll have to pick up a usb floppy or something.
maybe I could do it from usb thumbdrive

how long does the flashing process usually take?

it's been sitting for awhile. I'm getting skeptical that it's working

dullers: firmware flashing in windows takes under 2 minutes, generally. I can't imagine that it is still working after, say, more than 10. Can you get into windows? The Dell firmware comes with a windows flashing app.

i threw the card in a different system; AMD system with an nvidia chipset, WinXP Pro. I can't get the drivers to install so the windows firmware flash won't work.

i tried flashing the firmware from USB again in the nvidia chipset board and still no luck. it's been sitting at that same screen for over half an hour now.

I think I might have a defective card. I'm going to order a replacement unless there's any other thoughts =/

Maybe you need to "force" the LSI drivers, my perc6 in WindowsXP is using LSI drivers installed manually. Try to use a non usb floopy
