PERC 5/i RAID Card: Tips and Benchmarks - Page 409

How is the boot time with a Perc6? My Perc5 adds a lot to my boot up time and I'm wondering if the Perc6 would be any better.

Yeah... I find myself using my laptop for quick-browsing instead of waiting for my desktop to boot up now

Although it's HELLA FAST

All PCIe slots are definately NOT created equal, and some will not support anything other than a gpu.
Correct... these PCIe slots are sometimes called PEG (PCI Express Graphics) slots.

I would say 15-25s (subjetively).
Once again...

My board is an Intel DG33TL-M (G33 chip, onboard graphics, Q6600 cpu). I don't think there are any limits on what I can use the x16 slot for.
Maybe the problem is in "Intel(R) Matrix Storage Manager" ? Have you installed it ? And you need to set your onboard drives to "IDE mode" or smth.

I am not using the Intel Matrix Storage Manager. It would apply to the onboard ICH9R controller, but it's not necessary under W2K8 for non-RAID functionality. The drives attached to the ICH9R are working fine without the Intel software.

Since it's not installed it shouldn't be a factor here.

I'm using the W2K8 R2 built-in drivers for the PERC 5i, so there's nothing to roll back to. Do I need updated drivers from Dell?

Thanks, I timed my Perc5 at 33 seconds so I guess the 6 isn't much better.

But have you checked what is the "mode" of your SATA drives ? Check "Configure SATA as" in BIOS.
