PERC 5/i RAID Card: Tips and Benchmarks - Page 410

They are in AHCI mode, but what's the relevance of the drives on the ICH9R controller? The machine is running off those drives right now.

I'm only concerned about the drives on the PERC. Since the PERC "can't start" those drives are not available in Windows.

anyone know how to get that clip off the stock heatsink? I'm trying to reuse that clip on a different heatsink but I can't for the life of me get it off the stock one. I was able to get the whole stock assembly off the card but the clip is stuck to the heatsink on the inside. I need to somehow bend the heatsink or something, anyone get any suggestions?

I held the heatsink hanging off a counter and hit the edge with a hammer. This "opened" up the fins enough to remove the clip.
Once again...

There are 2 (IIRC) little tabs that hold the clip in place - slip a small flat-head screwdriver down into each tab and wiggle it a little - this releases the clip, it falls out and the heatsink is undamaged.

I put mine in a vice and bent it over backwards from the center until the clip was free. Basically what duckieho did

I did find with my second perc5 that you can fasten a 40mm x 10mm fan to the stock heatsink with the right screws and get a very slimline cooling solution

Hi guys, i love this thread its like the bible for the perc 5/i

anyway to my point, i had a problem with an ICYDOCK caddy and having fitted it (before the problem) the drives overheated after the fan failed and since needed to rearrage the case layout, and now the card wants to import my foreign array one of my arrays are showing normal and in windows and the other (the important one) is shown as foreign but it wont let me import tells me that its an error importing and fails.

Any tips to help solve this im at a loss!

You can't have second RAID controller - if motherboard is in "RAID mode".

Does anyone have an idea if the Perc 5i controller is compatible with the AMD 785G Chipset.

Looking at building a new HT PC and using the Perc card for NAS Services.
