Basically when I was handling Perc5's, the difference between the Adapter and Integrated was that the adapter was the one that came with a PCI bracket as it was meant to be used in a tower that could fit the entire card depth while the integrated came with a backplate instead of a PCI bracket because it was geared more toward server racks and would be attached laying down since it wouldn't be able to support the depth of the card if you were to mount it as usual in a tower.

Performance and specs wise, there's no difference. You just have to make sure to get the right firmware/drivers that is specific to your card (i.e. - adapter or integrated)
Thank you for sharing your research results !

Hello guys,

I am sorry I think the answer to my question is already answered in the topic, but I can't find it :-/

First, I have a Perc 5/i on which there are 4 Savvio 15k.1 plugged on the first connector, and configured in two different VD in RAID0.
I would like to plug one of my others HDD (a Samsung HD103UJ, SATA) on the second connector of my PERC. The fact is there are data on the disk, and it is splitted in two partitions.

So I plugged this HDD to the second connector, but my Windows 7 doesn't see either the disk or the slices in Disk Management, and in the Storage Manager software I can see the disk but the software sees it as "Unset and in good health" (I don't know if the translation is correct ).

Here is a screenshot : http://img535.imageshack.us/img535/3719/perc.png

I'm affraid that if I initialize my HDD through the Storage Manager my data will be erased. Can you confirm/infirm or tell me how to procede to access my data on the disk?

Thanks guys

Quick question. Can I convert a RAID 5 to a RAID 6 by adding an extra drive on a Perc 6i?

Unless i'm wrong but i remember someone answered that it was possible (indeed, i was concerned by this type of operation... Actually, i have RAID1 and my goal is to achieve RAID6 in 2 steps (RAID1 -> RAID5 then RAID5 -> RAID6).

Hope someone can confirm/deny this.

Sincerely,

Search thread for "import" or "initialize" words.
If you don't do Initialization after "importing foreign configuration" - all your data should remain intact ...

plz plz help

I have a perc 6/i adapter flashed with lsi firmware 11.0.1.0026 wich is latest lsi 8708elp serie firmware.

I am getting the error no sas adress present in MFT . please program valid sas address and restart system at boot-up.

the system boot properly and and can see the controler in device manager and in Megaraid Storage utility.

I tried megacli -adpsetsasa 000000000000001 -a0 with no luck i get code 0x1

I realy want to get back to dell firmware so I tried tru the megaraid storage utility and I get 0x13 error.

I tried the the megacli (dos and windows ) -adpfwflash -f fw612ii -rom -nosigchk -noverchk -a0 : I get

Adapter 0: Megasas sas pci express ROMB
Vendor ID: 0x1000, Device ID: 0x0060

Download Completed.
Flashing image to adapter...
Firmware Failed to FLASH flash. Stop!!!

Exit Code: 0x13

I tried megafl.exe with same arguments and it say stop flash failed.

I downloaded dell windows flash utilily and I get : the procedure entry point regdeletekeyexa could not be located in the dinamic link library advapi32.dll error

I downloaded and older version of the firmware for windows and it said the update package was not compatible with any of the device detected in the system.

I did extract the package when in the package.xml and found that subdeviceid and subvendorid were diferent from the one I got from megacli -adpallinfo command they were both displayed as 0000 in megacli.

I did edit the file package.xml set subdeviceid and subvendorid to 0000 and then it would run (the dell firmware package) asking me if i want to downgrade from 11.0.1-0026 to 6.0.3-0003 i did reply yes then the update goes succesfuly. I hit ok I reboot and it is still a Megaraid romb bios that start up. Megacli and megaraid say the same too.

The card is labeled DELL and it for for sure a perc 6/i .
I am running windows Xp sp3 on a dell 2950 dual cpu system.

is there a trick i did not try or know to bring the card back to dell firmware.
also is there an other way to get rid the no sas address in MFT error msg.

Can some help !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm having problems flashing my Perc 5/i, I've been trying to flash it to the latest version (5.2.2-0072) but nothing seems to be working.

First I tried the windows exe but it wouldn't work because it didn't like my operating system (Windows Server 2008 x64). Then I tried booting with the floppy, still no go, it says 'STOP FLASH failed.' Finally I just tried formatting my USB thumbdrive as a boot drive and putting the update on there (one of the methods on the Dell page) and it had the same message as the floppy method... Does anyone have any other tips?? I'm all out of ideas.. thanks!

Guys,

Anyone here who has an idea how long it takes for a BBU to get charged..?
I attached a BBU to my Dell Perc 6i yesterday evening an the machine has been running for about 10 hours.
When I boot my machine I'm still keep getting this error / warning:

"The battery hardware is missing or malfunctioning, or the battery is unplugged, or the battery could be fully discharged. If you continue to boot the system, the battery-backed cache will not function"

I never trusted the wacky bbu cable that came with the BBU so I bought this one instead:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=200425501376

The MegaCli tool in Windows 2008 is telling me that there is no BBU present

After that long of a charge, that's usually a sign of one of the following, in order of cost to fix/severity:

1. Bad BBU Cable
2. Bad BBU
3. Bad BBU socket or charge circuit on the card itself

Mine was #3 when I bought my 5/i from eBay. Got that same message, I returned the BBU and cable and got a replacement from the seller, which also did not work. I eventually got a 6/i, with BBU. Worked great. Tried the battery on the 5/i... did not work. Tried the 5/i battery on the 6/i, it powered up and was detected.

I eventually returned the entire 5/i card + BBU + cable for a refund.

Have you tried flashing the card on another computer/OS besides Server 2008 and DOS?

Usually the Win XP flash tool works best for me, although I have used it on Win 7 without a hitch.
