PERC 5/i RAID Card: Tips and Benchmarks - Page 452

post #4511 of 7276
Hmm your seq writespeed with 100MB is alot higher then mine!
What could be the reason? larger cache module or smaller stripe size?
post #4512 of 7276
Not sure, maybe try changing these settings on your and re benchmark

IO policy: Cached IO
Disk Cache Policy: Enabled

I don't think the cache size would matter until you get over 256MB

Not sure how accurate Crystalmark is because i get different results with HD Tune and ATTO but here are some of mine.

OS drive (Raid 0) Fujitsu 146G 15K

Attachment 167561
Attachment 167562

Stripe=64K
Disk cache Pol=Enable
Read Pol=Adaptive Read Ahead
IO=Direct IO

Games array (Raid 0) Lenovo 300G 10K (velociraptors)
Attachment 167565
Attachment 167566

Stripe=64K
Disk cache Pol=Enable
Read Pol=Adaptive Read Ahead
IO=Direct IO

Write speeds bit low but am happy with the reads....why are the results so different between benchmark software ?

Has anyone been able to find a way to get an output for a HDD activity LED on a PERC 5? my SAS cable has a little breakout cable, but I dont know if thats for LEDs or not.
Would be really nice to be able to see read/write activity on my array

Anyone interested in a PERC 5/i card with Battery Backup Unit, feel free to PM me. I have 6-10 cards right now that I may be releasing to the community at a decent price.

Do you mean to ask what is the LSI equivalent of the PERC 5/i and PERC 6/i?

Or what LSI controllers are used on each card?

Well the PERC 5/i supports 2 SAS connectors, which supports up to 8 drives I believe.

I'm searching LSI's site for the equivalent card right now.

I've had my Perc5 for a few months now, but only in the last few weeks have I had time to attempt to set it up correct. I can't figure out what's wrong with the HD Tune Pro Benchmark test, as the others all look fine.

Controller: Perc 5i with 256MB cache and BBU
Harddisks: 5 x Samsung HD203WI (2 TB)
System: Asus P5E (tape over the pins), Q9550 stock, 8GB DDR2 1066mhz, Intel X-25M 80GB OS drive.

The Perc5 card is using the following firmware versions: LSI 7.0.1-0051 and 1.12.150-0438.

Array Settings:
RAID 5
Stripe size: 512K (Mostly TV/Movies/ISO and some Music)
Read policy: Always Read Ahead
Default Write Policy: Write back
IO policy: Direct IO
Access Policy: Read Write
Disk Cache Policy: Unchanged

Formatted in Windows 7 Ultimate with NTFS and 64k allocation size.

HD Tune Benchmark:

HD Tune File Benchmark 64MB:

HD Tune File Benchmark 512MB:

Crystal Disk Mark 100MB:

Crystal Disk Mark 1000MB:

HD Tach:

ATTO 256MB:

What I'm trying to figure out is, why the top one is so much lower then the others, and if it's a concern at all? I've yet to make this my production array, but I will need to within the next week or two. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Looking through the thread, I seem to have similar speeds as 'sireddie' from a month ago. I'll dig up Sandra now to see if the PCIE slot is reported as 1x aswell...

EDIT: Sandra confirmed that the Perc5 card is running at PCIe 8x.
