I have an Intel P965 Chipset, and I had to block off the two pins so my system would post. I used a piece of tape temporarily. I have two 15k SAS Drives that i'd like to configure in RAID0.

So, I am able to get into the LSI BIOS (Ctrl+C), and I can see the adapter and both of my SAS drives, but in the menu for the controller, there isn't a "RAID Options" button/menu. I can see the SAS Topography and the Advanced options menu, but there isn't a RAID menu! Does the SAS6 not support RAID in a non-Dell system? I looked it up, and it says it's supports hardware RAID0 & 1. What should I do?

Thanks!
Does anyone have any advice for me, please?

post a screenshot of what you can see - there should be an 'adapter properties' option that you can select which gives you the 'raid properties' screen, from which you should get the option to create a new array.

(apologies if this is a little inaccurate - it is from memory, and it's a while since I used a 6/iR - don't use so much Dell stuff in a hands-on sense any more...)

I can't take a picture of my own screen, but I've seen what the "adapter properties" menu looks like from screenshots, and there are 3 options you can select, one of which is "raid properties". On mine, that option is completely missing. I'm trying to find a picture that I've seen in the past, but I haven't been successful.

I appreciate the response, btw.

Gah, I need another Perc.....hopefully I can get one for cheap. I lowballed some guy who thinks he's going to get $195 for a Perc 5/i. Yea, good luck with that bro.

Did you enable "Interupt 19 Capture"?

i just installed a new PERC 6i on my Win7 x64 machine. PC specs are below.

i'm using 5x Samsung Spinpoint F3's. They were on sale at newegg a few weeks back for $54.99 or something.

i want to use this for my OS, so i am trying to figure out how to get the best benches for 4k files. i THINK that's how you are supposed to do it. i am not booting to the array currently.

anyway, i've set up 3 different virtual disks with Dell SAS storage Manager, which if you don't have it, you should get it. It's badass for configuring arrays.

Array 0: 8K stripe
Array 1: 64K stripe
Array 2: 512K stripe

i tested with HD Tune, all different file sizes, 128MB file length, with TWO different block sizes for each: 8K and 1MB. i figure 8K would represent OS files the best.

anyway, here some results with the 8K and 512K stripes. any suggestions for configuration are appreciated. i will likely run it Raid 0+1 with 6 disks. i have one more drive i haven't installed yet.

by the way, i won't be using this array for a few weeks so if you have any particular benching setups you'd like to see, let me know. i have HDTune, ATTO and most of the other programs.

you cant set up all the arrays at the same time then compare the results, since the array location on the platter determines how fast it will be (the outer edge provides higher sequential and higher IOPS than the inner tracks).

You should test each separately.

don't worry, you're not missing out on much. that card isn't all that great... here's a post i did a while ago about tuning Linux on the P400:

I just purchased a perc 6/i. Would this be sufficient for cooling? I would put this in the slot right underneath the card.

Thanks
