I asked a question on the smartmontools support mailing list and the developer answered it. So could anyone try this out. I'm on vacation and unable to try it.

It's about TLER/CCTL support on Windows with the DELL PERC 5/i.
any idea what else we can do with smartmontools now that it can see the PERCs? I tried setting TLER on my drives, but ended up getting an error "csmi is not a valid device type"

It seems as if the only commands I can issue with csmi after the -d flag are --scan and --scan-open which doesn't really help much.

So uh.

Got a lil problem, after i created my raid 5 array, and did a full init through lsi megaraid, everything seemed fine.

But when i came home after transferring a few files, I thought i should just chkdsk the partition, it then said RAW, but windows said ntfs and i could access the files, so I then rebooted and then the drive was unallocated, which was weird, so i thought i'd make the drives foreign, and they are now.

The problem is that i cant import the configuration, tried in the BIOS and in LSI megaraid manager.

What do, even if i erase the array and rebuild it, can i access the data somehow, or am i, as they say it, ****ed?

Also, why would this happen? I am connecting my drives through a chieftec SNT-3141.

Now i've gotten so far that i've gotten the raid back online, and it looks fine in the megaraid software.

Problem now is that it says unallocated space under disk management, is there a way to fix this, a program that reads the config and makes it understand that it should be an already created disk, or something to just rebuild the data if I make the new drive through disk management, and it's empty?

Please report your findings to the smartmontools mailing list.
I will not be able to try things myself until may.

Thank you.

Perc 6/i = http://www.xbyte.com/ProductDesc.aspx?code=CAT_834_9
Price = $149.00

Perc 5/i = http://www.xbyte.com/ProductDesc.aspx?code=CAT_832_9
Price = $129.00

Tell XBYTE you want the rear mount PCI bracket, and they will included it for free. Includes 90day warranty, and BBU with battery cable.

Then get these cables:

Tripp Lite S502-20N =
Price = $17.00 each

Thats my suggestion. Plus they next day replacements (if you need that sort of thing).

It should have the driver already, then run windows update for the updated driver.

With initialising the raid and such, I suppose if i've already created the disk in windows, I can just init the raid and recreate the disk in windows?
